2005 Buck Paradise Waterfowl Gallery

Sept/07/05
WELCOME EVERYONE,

Well another season is upon us and it is looking to be great one. There has been an above amount of water fall this summer and good snow last winter, resulting in a lot of ponds filled up and looking great for ducks this year. Went spotting last night and there are a lot of Big Honkers around. Also saw 4 awesome looking whitetail bucks that were all together. Well the guides and myself figured we better go and test our equipment and have a little fun and went on a hunt today. There were 8 of us hunting, Mark and his wife Carla, Brandon, Barcley, Ron Tipper, Dean Cunningham, Jason, and myself. We shot 60 Big honkers and probably would have finished off the limit but we were running out of shells and the shoulders were getting a little sore. Great hunt and a great way to start off our 2005 season. We hope you enjoy the gallery and the daily log. Oh by the way, the weather was warm, clear, and a slight wind coming out of the east. Birds finished well 75% of the time with some being right on our laps. See ya tomorrow and if your looking at this and thinking of doing a waterfoul hunt with us. Quick thinking and come and do it. You won't regret it! Grant

Friday Sept.09/05

Sept 12/05
We would like to welcome back Mossy Oaks Joe White and new to Buck Paradise his partner Kris. Mossy Oak is beginning a new program on the outdoor channel with Browning Arms. Browning sent up Aaron Cummings and Ryan Cook. They brought us up some awesome gear and clothing. Barcley and I shot with them this morning and had a good shoot with a total of 20 big honkers and 3 snows being our take. We had a west wind and were hunting in a baled oat/barley crop. The decoys were wet this morning with all the humidity in the air. It was a good shoot and hopefully will make T.V or video.
Brandon started his 2005 season off with two repeat hunters Jerry Beaudoin and Francois Morin and a new hunter to Buck Paradise Bob Jacobson. They were limited out early with a couple specklebellys and ducks and a few snows to boot. They were hunting a harvested pea field.

Sept.14/05
Hunters: Ryan Cook, Gerry Beaudoin, Francois Morin, Dean Cunningham, Bob Jacobson Another limie shoot this cool rainy morning. A limit of dark geese and lots of snows and ducks also. Total of 73 birds for this group. We did not hunt with the Mossy Oak cameras this morning because of the rain.Guide was Brandon.

Sept.15
Hunters: Clayton Kyle, Bruce & Shane Pestana, Jeff Buckner, Marty Bush & Jim Wester. Guide was Brandon. Goood shoot. Decoys were wet, birds shyed a bit, but these boys no how to shoot. Total of 53 birds this morning. Barcleys group: William Edwards, Andy Edwards, Greg Smart, Doug Smart, Ryan Holder, had a great shoot with 40 ducks and a few Canada's. The field the night before was loaded with geese, but they went somewhere else. Great shoot with 50 birds being harvested.

Sept.16/05
This was quite a deal this morning. The rain doesn't want to stop. Brandon and the guys (Clayton Kyle grouyp)had to haul all of the decoys 1/4 mile into the field. It was well worth it though with a limit of Geese and some ducks and snows being shot. Hunted a partially harvested pea field this morning. I had to bring up a tractor to the field to get the truck and trailer out of the field. Had to use our prowler to get all the decoys, birds & hunters out of the field. Barcleys crew (Andy Edwards group) also had a limit shoot of Canada's this morning. Hunting on a greenfeed field. Lots of bird to clean today again! I am waiting on pictures of Barlcey's group.

Sept 17/05
Brandons crew, slammed another limit of Big honkers this morning. We got into the fields okay today, still brought the prowler along just in case. Had my two sons out with us this morning and Ian shot his first snow with Jeffs 12 Gauge. He was pumped. Great morning with a total of 64 birds being harvested. Barcleys crew shot till 8:30 and harvest 25 Greater Canada's this morning and then they had to get to the airport. Great week of hunts. Will start it all over again Monday with 2 new crews.
Sept 19,20,21
Guide - Barcley
Hunters - Kurt, Merle, Jack, Richard
These four hunters drove all the way up from California. They were not let down. They limited on dark geese all three days and limited on ducks 2/3 days. Plus lots of snow. Basically they killed a lot of birds. Good weather, and they hunted out of Tippers awesome willow blinds that he made up. Great hunt!
Another good shoot for the boys this morning. They didn't have much wind to work with but we set up in a pea field that the birds wanted in bad. Finished in an hour, another limit shoot. They got 47 canadians 1 speckle belly and 1 duck. Good shooting guys hopefully tomorrow goes just as well.
Barcleys group hunted a barley field with swaths. Very light wind out of the north. The guys shot well getting a limit of ducks (48), 40 canadians and 11 snow geese. The left side needed a little bit of back up from the younger fella's. Good shooten though guys tomorrows another day.
The Mike Lewis gang pulled through again easily with another limit shoot. Awesome job on the shooting guys, some of the best I've ever seen that's for sure. We were hunting a harvested oat field this morning with a slight wind from the north west. Lots of big honkers, we shot 40 canadians 8 spec's 7 snows and 19 ducks. We also got 2 banded birds which is very rare. Great job guys well try for another one tomorrow. Grant has me "Brandon" or Barcley doing the write ups now so if I miss anything or any one well talk to Grant.
Troy Mark, Wade, Cory, Dan and Gary Day 2 Hit the ducks hard again! Shot a limit of Pintails early on. Goose hunting got tough as the decoys frosted up and the sun rose. Decoys were really wet. Had to wait for the greaters to come late in the morning. Fellas shot well harvested 30 ducks and 29 Canadas.
All I can say about this mornign hunt is unbelivable. It was one of the best goose hunts I have ever guided. The sunrise was spectacular and the amount of birds flying was imense. We had hundreds of birds landing in our decoys and all around us. Word of advice for De, we do have very realistic decoys but that doesn't mean shoot them! Haha, all in a days hunt. Great job guys hope to see yah next year! We ended up with our limit of canadians again and 1 duck as well, hunting a harvested pea field with a strong west wind. Check the sit out again Monday guys to see how we are doing next week. Till then. Brandon

It was fairly chilly and frosty out this morning, the wind changed on us after we got set up and our decoys were frosted, but once the sun came out and dried things up and we got switched around to suit the wind things went well. We were hunting another harvested pea field with a north west wind. Good hunt guys, good shooting.
Oct 3 Day One
John Sewell, Jack Hurst, Allen Belle, Robert Andrews and Leroy Another eventful hunt with John. Clear morning with a light breeze out of the south. Wind died down early. Birds were finishing in all directions. Wind picked up and shifted out of the east. We adjusted our spread. Moved Leroy to the left side. Frost built up on the decoys. Worked a few more flights of Canadas into the decoys. As the decoys started to dry more birds started setting in. OCTOBER 4TH TUESDAY
This morning we set up for snows and did pretty well. We shot 33 snows 10 Canadians and 11 ducks for a total of 54 birds. Our shooters were mike, Brent, Eddie, Todd and Wayne. This was the first time I set up for snows this year and it turned out great. I also saw two moose this morning while I was drivign around doing some spotting, I got pretty close to a small bull, about 12 yards or so, it was pretty neat. Grant hired two new bird spotters to come along with me in the evenings, they are doing a great job so guys the two girls are the ones you owe for finding your fields. Keep up to date and check our site out daily to see how we are doing with all out hunts. Brandon
WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 5TH
Wayne, Todd, Mike, Brent, and Eddie Hammered the birds again this morning with another limit of Canadians and 17 ducks as well. The birds finished really good until the sun came out as we had a lot of frost on our decoys. Very good shoot though, we were hunting a harvested pea field again with a south east wind. It has been pretty chilly up here the last couple mornings, gets the birds moving around really good. Awesome 3 days of hunting guys well see what the next 3 have in store for us. Brandon|
Day 3 Oct 5
Jackie Hurst, John Sewel, Robert Andrews and Allan Belle
Another clear crisp morning about -8 Celsius. Birds flew a little late. Had some ducks work us early before the geese started to fly. Tough conditions again with frost on the decoys and sun shining. Ducks flew all morning. Easily shot a limit of pintails and filled in with Mallards. White geese, Speckles and Canada's came into the spread between flights of ducks. A lot of shooting. Finished the morning with 74 Birds in the bag. John Sewel unfortunately had to miss part of the morning to a unexpetced Bowel Movement. You just can't plan for some things.
He got back just in time for the Game Warden to check him out.
Thursday October 6th
We hunted another harvested pea field this morning and had the best hunt of the week by far. There was a very strong south wind and the birds finshed perfect. We Came home with 32 canadains 32 ducks and 3 snows, another limit shoot for the guys. There wasn't any frost this morning so it wasn't to chilly out and our decoys never got all shined up so everything worked great. I only had 4 hunters this morning, Wayne, Todd, Brett and Mike. Fisrt morning this year I got a limit of ducks along with the darks, good shooting guys.
FRIDAY OCTOBER 7TH
Great hunt this mornign for both groups, they both bagged their limits in canadians. We had to put John and Jack in different hunting parties today due to unacceptable behavior in the fieild. John was tipping off the wardens so we made him hunt north of the river today so the fuzz wouldn't bother him. All in all two good shoots. Good job boys, last day of the week tomorrow.
OCTOBER 8TH SATURDAY
Once again another great shoot, John, Mike, Todd, and Wayne had no problem getting their limit this morning as well as Grants nephew Ty Selk. Brandon
MONDAY OCTOBER 10TH
A great way to start off the week with a limit shoot of Canadians. I saw another little bull moose last night while I was out spotting birds with Lee and Forest and managed to get about 10 yards from it. Grants son and nephew, Ian and Ty came out to hunt again with us this morning because they never had school being as it is thanks giving. Best birds dogs around, Ty managed to shoot a bunch of geese with ease, good way for a few young guys to spend a morning. All in all good shoot, hunting a pea field again with a strong S/E wind, pretty sunny out and not to chilly. Brandon

Hunters did great had a lot of fun with this group.
TUESDAY OCTOBER 11TH
This morning we hunted both mine and Barcleys groups togethor in a barley field that still had swaths laying. There were lots of birds flying all morning but none really wanted to commit, I guess it's part of hunting. We ended up with 2 ducks 4 snows and 8 darks. THURSDAY OCOTBER 13TH
This moring we hunted a swathed wheat field with hardly any wind at all and some sun. We ended the day with 11 greaters, by far some of the biggest birds we have shot this year. Good shooting this morning guys we'll try and hammer them tomorrow. Till then Brandon

Oct 15 2005 Day 3
Dane Horrell Group
Bob Cox, Don and Gordon
This Hunt Makes the Top 3 of the season.
Unbelievable hunting conditions this morning.
Birds started flying at 7:15 am and started landing in the decoys at 7:20 am The wind was very strong out of the southeast. The birds wanted to land and get out of that wind in a bad way. The sunrise was blinded them as well. The conditions were in the hunters favour this morning. Finished shooting our limit of Canada's at 7:45. Another great bunch of guys to hunt with.

A special thank you to my Good Friend Ron (Tip) Tipper his diligence in finding fields for us to hunt is commendable. Thanks Ron !

Sidenote "Tip has started using my Brothers limo service to drive him around and Spot Birds"

FRIDAY OCTOBER 14TH
Good shoot this morning we bagged 27 canadians and at one point in our hunt had about 6 thousand geese landing all around us in our decoys. We were huntign a harvested pea field, the wind kept switching on us all through out the morning, and it was clear and sunny. Our decoys frosted and when the sun came out glared pretty bad. Given the circumstances still had a very good hunt, good shooting guys! Brandon
SATURDAY OCTOBER 15TH
Good shoot this morning the birds finsihed unbelivably. We were hunting another harvested pea field with a very strong wind from the east. It was blowing our decoys over. Turned out to be a great hunt good times! BARCLEY'S HAPPY! All in all good shoot, hope to see all you guys next year. Brandon
Day One Oct 17 2005
Richard and Matt Prasch, Doug Rawlinson
Perfect Goose Hunting Morning.
Cloudy with a strong wind.
Birds worked in really well from the west.
Couldn't have had a better morning.
Limit of Canada's in 20 minutes. Out of the field by 9:00 am.
MONDAY OCTOBER 17TH
This morning we hunted a harvested pea field with a good south wind and it rained as well. Very good hunting conditions but none of th ebirds really came back to the field from the night before. It is pretty rare for that to happen but I guess that's how she goes. We had fun this morning the guys really like our new spotters we have. We'll try them again tomorrow see if we can get a killer shoot in before these guys have to go home!

FRIDAY OCTOBER 18TH

This morning we hunted a harvested pea field. It was very frosty and the wind kept changing directions on us. The sun came out bright and the birds flew late, thus we only ended up with 10 geese. Lots of birds in the area we were at they just wouldn’t even look at our spread. Kind of a crappy day of hunting, but hey it adds to the sport and we can’t look perfect all the time right! Lots of fun though great group of guys! John had to shoot a spoon bill yesterday afternoon so we found a little pond where we knew one was hiding and he shot the only one there, good job John. Mike and Jeff are going to get their priorities straight at the bar this afternoon, along with Craig. John just showed me a picture of a dirty old mud duck and said “I would like one of these” so Gary and Darwin went to see if they could snuff one out for him!  Hope tomorrow goes well!

 (SORRY NO PHOTO’S AVAILABLE).

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 19TH
Last day of the season for me! We ended it with a pretty decent hunt, bagging 36 canadians and a duck. Had a lot of fun with these guys the last 3 days, great way to put a finish to the bird hunting. I ho;e everyone that came enjoyed themselves and those who are just checken out the web site, well you can see we had a great year for birds and there will be more to come. Give Grant a call if you are even thinking of coming and he will fill you in on anything the web site may not have. Till next year for the birds guys! Keep up with whats going on with the deer for the next month because we are going to be really getting into them shortly here I think were gonna get some real good ones this year! Brandon
Oct 19 2005
Dyck Prasch, Matt Prasch and Doug Rawlinson
Final guided hunt of the season. Shot some late season Honkers and Lessers. Birds were feeding on wheat stubble. Clear Morning but did have a strong wind out of the east that helped a lot. Birs worked in really well. Hunters finished the morning early with a limit of Canada Geese. Great Hunt Guys.

To all of you that hunted with Tip, Jim and Myself a big thank you. We appreciated working in the field with you and we always enjoy the fellowship with you hunters. Take care. It was a great season.

Oct.24/05

A BIG thanks to Brandon & Barcley & Tipper & Carla for all there hard work this past waterfowl season. Also to Jean and Colleen for keeping our belly’s full. Brandon & Barcley did a great job keeping everyone posted on the website and it was fun for me to sit down in the evenings and read about there days hunts, even though I heard about them over and over again at the lodge. It was a great season with above average of birds being harvested. The ducks were definetly up. The last week, Brandon struggled a bit as a lot of his birds moved south, but with Tipper, Barcley and his Dad Tommy, they found us some good shoots south of the river. I had a pretty busy fall with a very late harvest, but we were very fortunate to get all of the crop off. This is my last year for farming. I am going to rent out my land and be a full time outfitter.  Unfortunately we could not get Fred Zink up. He was hunting south of us and having good luck, so we decided he should stay up there as we were having to travel quite aways south anyways to catch the birds. I think we got a new flush of northern birds in as My Dad said the lake by town was “filling up” My decoys are not put all away yet, so maybe we might have to go do a shoot. My Dad was hinting pretty heavy that he would sure like to get one more in, so if I do, I will let you all know how that went. I am going to head down south this week also and hook up with Freddy and his crew and maybe do a shoot and then bring home a load of new decoys and blinds that he has for me. I would also like to thank all of the people that came up and hunted with us at Buck Paradise this fall. We enjoyed many laughs, stories and fellowship in the last 7 weeks. We had many limit shoots and I need to remind everyone to be thankful for that, as we saw in the last week, we had to work really hard for our shoots and it does make you appreciate all the good ones. I look forward to seeing all of you next year. Last but not least, I need to thank my wife Shelly and my two boys for all there hard work in this operation. It would not be what it is today if it were not for the three of them. They keep me balanced and Shelly between going to school taking accounting classes and then doing all the cleaning and chasing two boys around, keeps her very busy so a big Thankyou dear!  I will be starting to book my bird hunts up again starting mid November, so if you are interested please give me a call and will line something up. Thanks for following the reports. Keep an eye on the 2005 Whitetail deer Gallery as we started today with Archery hunts and next week we will have all 4 of my whitetail camps going full steam. Take care everyone. See you on the flip side!
