Birds finished very well.
Limited out in 40 minutes and could have finished sooner but waited for the big honkers to come in.
Shot 20 Greaters and 28 lessers. 12 Mallards.
Great shoot, we were out of the field by 9:00 AM and birds were piling in on the other end of the field. Will make for another good shoot tomorrow or the next day.
Hunting a Barley field that had been silaged.
Using power hunters, finishers and 1 migrator blind
set out 200 decoys, mostly our fullbody Green heads from Avery (They look and worked great!)
Mark spotted the field and Brandon was the guide for the morning.
The boys are now out looking for prairie chickens and some more ducks.

|

The group also shot about 20 ducks the two nights that they went out to the duck ponds we pointed them to. Bruce met a bear by one of the duck sloughs and scarred the *&%$ out of him. Also harvested 8 Prairie Chickens (Good eating) Boys had a great trip and are returning next year.

|
Day 4
Hunters- Scott Merin. Brian Goehrins, Steve Mayfield, David Bristol,
Paul Polhemus Jr.
Guides - Brandon and our newest guide Grant Helboe. "Welcome Grant"
Hunting a pea field that had some combined and some not.
Using Finishers, powerhunters and migrator blinds.
Used our normal spread of dark decoys.
Conditions were NW wind, cool, and partly cloudy
Birds finished well! 32 geese and 8 ducks.
Great shoot.
Mossy Oak (Joe White and Chris) is also up and myself (Grant) and my guides Mark and Barcley and Barcleys Dad, Tom all got to hunt in front of the camo cameras. We were hunting Barcleys stompin grounds and were hunting out of a standing pea field that we had to walk in to. We were after whites and used our all white spread with the electronic call. We had birds landing in our decoys while we were setting up. It was cool. Birds were flairing quite a bit and after a few alterations they came in pretty good. The 4 of us harvested 30 snows. Good shoot! In the afternoon my above crew mentioned all went bear hunting, so Mark, Grant, Barcley and Grants Dad, Leonard went after ducks with the Mossy Oak boys and there cameras. Barcley found us a honey hole of duck pond that was surrounded by swathed barley. We set up the mojo and 30 floater decoys and 24 dry land duck decoys along the shore and walking into the field. We camoed up our finisher and migrator blinds and the ducks were on top of us. Great hunt! The birds kept coming about every 10 minutes and in groups of 3-5 and we had a great limit shoot. Lots of great footage. Headed home for another one of Jeans great meals and upon arrival at the lodge, we discover 4/5 bear hunters connected with some awesome bears. It was a lot of fun getting to hunt, something we do not get a lot of chances to do. Busy but a great day!
See ya tomorrow!

|
Day 5
Hunters- Scott Merin. Brian Goehrins, Steve Mayfield, David Bristol,
Paul Polhemus Jr.
Guides - Brandon and Grant Helboe.
Hunting a pea field that had some combined and some not.
Using Finishers, powerhunters and migrator blinds.
Used our normal spread of dark decoys.
Conditions - Wind out of the SW. Cool, clear morning. 0 degrees Celcius (32 F)
Had geese walking around in the decoys again. Limit shoot and finished early.
40 Canadas & 8 snows.
Grant, Barcley & Mark headed out with the Mossy Oak camera boys and we got skunked. We were hunting swathed wheat filled that had a lot of Canada Geese on it. One of my guides got permission to hunt the field, and then went scouting some more and we think the farmer came and shot them out of his field after our guide was gone. Can not blame him for that, but it screwed up our hunt. We had lots of birds going by us and not paying the least bit of attention. "THATS HUNTING" Had a good time and some laughs anyway and we are looking for revenge tomorrow morning.

Clear, sunny, warm morning. A lot of birds flew right over the guys this morning. The stayed on the water for a bit and them small groups started coming to the spread and that is were the fun began. It was a tough morning and Brandon worked hard. There seems to be getting a lot of geese around. "Its all good"

Well Rives told Brandon that he hoped to be finished early this morning so as they had to get back to Saskatoon. 15 Minutes the guys had a limit of dark geese. Brandon could not get in to his blind. It was crazy. I have had some 20 minute limit shoots, but not 15. Great, sunny, clear, warm morning. Not sure of the wind. Birds finished extremely well.
48 Lesser Canada's and 2 ducks and 1 snow. It is kind of funny as we watched this field the night before, there was one snow goose with a couple thousand darks. We got him!

Leonard used my Benneli this morning so I went big and shot my kids 20 gauge. It was fun. Had a great shoot with my guides and my Dad. We shot 48 lesser Canada's and 3 snows and 4 ducks.
Fred Zink was suppose to be here hunting these geese, but work in China delayed him coming up, so they reschedlued to come in a week and a 1/2 or so, you missed out on a good one.

Hunters - Robert Andrews, Alan Bell, Jack Hurst, John Sewell (Barcleys group)
Well the boys headed south again today and got into another limit shoot of lesser Canada's and some ducks and a few snows. Using our finisher blinds and Higdon decoys. I bet Jack a $1.00 yesterday that his group would get a limit shoot today. I won. So he wanted to make it 3-1 for this mornings hunt. I am $3.00 richer. I bet him another buck that he would shoot a coloured phase bear Thursday night. Take care all and thanks for checkin us out. See ya tomorrow. We have 2 new groups excited and ready to keep the momentum going.

Day 13
September 30/04
Goodbye September and Hello October. Well we ended September off with some awesome hunts.
Our new hunters are Bob Langosch, Phil Portwich, Chuck Miller, Ron Miller and Doug Rawlinson. My Dad went on the hunt with these guys this morning as they have all become good friends over the years that they have been hunting with us. Guides were Brandon and Grant H.
48 Lesser Canada's. Very fast hunt. Lots of birds and they were acting different this morning, probably the weather change we are exspierencing. Hunted another combined pea field. We had a overcast very cool morning with a west wind. The birds were fininshing but all over the place. We are exspecting it to get 8 below celcius tongiht. This should help move any other northern birds into this area.

|
Day 13
September 30/04
Hunters Marlin & Chris Johnson. (W/Barcley)
Welcome to our new father/son team. Barcley took these two fellows on a honker shoot this morning. Barcley said they were knocking them down like pros. The honkers finished well. Great shoot!!!

Day 13
September 30/04
Hunters - Robert Andrews, Alan Bell, Jack Hurst, John Sewell (Barcleys group) And a new comer Drew Smith with his beautiful lab.
These guys had a interesting trip today. I combined last night till 4:30 AM and came to the lodge to see the crews off. I nicely got into bed and could here someone calling me on the radio. So, I got up and found ut that John had packed the van they were driving in the ditch. So, off I went on a rescue to get them out of the ditch that they were hung up on and get them to there shoot. John was pretty embarrassed but it all ended up great. The group had a great shoot with over 50 birds being harvested. Drews dog got a great work out and did a great job retrieving the birds.
24 lessers
15 snows
15 fat & sassy mallard ducks...
John and Jack took the night off bear hunting as it is miserable out, but they will give it another go tomorrow night. They have been seeing some great black bears with good size, but they are holding out for coloured bear that we are well known for.

Day 17
Hunters Ray Spangler, Shane Joyner, Mark Joyner, Swede Ekberg, Jerry Beaudoin, Francois Morin
Guides - Brandon and Adam
Another very warm, sunny day with a small west wind. We found two pea fields last night that were about 1 mile from each other and we thought we would shoot the both of them and maybe get the birds hopping back and forth. It would have worked great but the nice weather screwed us this morning. We had Brandons crew and they did do fairly well with shooting a total of 32 birds this morning and them myself and the Primos crew, Bubba, Jimmy, Kieth & Mark and our two cameraman Troy and Griz hunted the other field. We could have probably killed quite a few birds but it was not working for the camera so we let quite a few go by. The wind was very minimal. We only shot 6 geese and 3 ducks. But we did find a honey of a duck hole that we will return to this evening. There was a little pond that I never new about by the field that we were hunting this morning, probably had over 1000 ducks go into it. We will get them tonight!!!!!Barcley did not get me a picture yet, but his group did very well shooting lots of big honkers and some ducks.

Day 18
Oct.06/04
Hunters Ray Spangler, Shane Joyner, Mark Joyner, Swede Ekberg, Jerry Beaudoin, Francois Morin
Guides - Brandon and Adam
We finally hunted a different field today other than peas. Brandon and his crew were hunting a oat field that had been swathed and bailed and the Greater Canadain geese had been in there for about a week. There was very little south wind but the birds worked Brandon and his crew good enough on this clear sunny warm morning to have a good shoot and put some greaters on the ground. The boys were all happy and planning a return trip. Jerry and Francois have been bear hunting and have been seeing lots of bears, just not the one they are looking for yet.
28 greaters
4 ducks

|
Day 18
Oct.06/04
Hunters - Grant Kuypers, Jimmy Primos, Bubba Mcphearson, Curt Wilson & Camerman Troy Ruiz and Grizz.
I did have a nice long log typed up for this hunt and then the damn computer cashed (&*%^*%)Anyways I will do it all over again.
First off, I would like to thanks Jimmy Primos and his group for coming up and hunting and videoing with us here at Buck Paradise. I look forward to doing it again.
We were hunting a oat & barley field this morning with a tonne of grain left in it for the geese. These geese had been in this field for about a week and the sweet thing about it was that it was only 5 minutes from the lodge. We got to sleep and extra 1/2 hour. yea! Conditions were clear, warm and a small south wind. I watched these birds the night before with a big smile on my face as it was loaded with big honkers and a few ducks. The beauty of this field also was there was a brush pile that the birds were feeding fairly close to and it was going to be our natural blind. We only set out about 40 green head decoys. There was a lot of birds that flew around us and then there were the ones that wanted to be movie stars. It was a great shoot and very comfortable and different than shooting out of our blinds. (Dont get me wrong, I love my blinds) but we brought out some benches and spread out a willow blind in fron of us and hid the camerman good and the fun began. Jimmy Primos called it a gentlemans hunt. This is one I will never forget. We got a lot of great footage and be sure to watch for it on one of the Primos hunting videos or T.V shows. Bubba took a camera one day and a few of my guides and with in minutes they had a coyote on top of them with Bubba calling on one of there predator calls. It made for a neat little video. Thanks again Primos and special thanks to Troy and Grizz for all the hard work they do while everybody else has the fun.

Hope the weather holds up for them.

Well what a way to end the season. We put both groups together today and they harvested a total of 79 birds.

12 snows
16 ducks
Great shoot. Some of the boys had some fat heads this morning as they all went to the DU banquet last night and a few decided to stay and hit the bars afterwards. Heard some stories and sounds like they all had a lot of fun. We had a great 2004 season. It will be a record for Buck Paradise. Between Brandon and Barcley we harvested over 2000 birds. I would like to thank most importantly all the landowners who let us hunt on there land, without there cooperation, there would not be any hunting. THANKYOU!
And then I would like to thank all of my hard working crew.
Jean - Our cook throughout the week. Thanks Jean you did a great job as usual
Shelly - (my wife) for putting up with me. Cooking on the weekends, cleaning on the weekdays, running after the kids & taking care of license and paperwork. Thanks
Brandon, Grant Helboe, Barcley and Tipper - THE GUIDES. You guys worked your asses off and I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it. I heard only positive comments from our hunters on your behalf. Thanks guys!!!
Mark - For finding us some of those hard to find fields and getting permission and working your tail off between farming, and getting ready for whitetail season Mark was still there when we needed him for help setting up in the morning and finding birds in the evening. Thanks.
Ian & Garet - My two boys who helped haul garbage and run errands for us. Thanks guys, love ya!
To our bird cleaners Carol and Heather. The dirtiest job and we sure kept them busy this year! Thankyou!
And to all our hunters that came and shared in the good times with us this fall. We have all become good friends and we look forward to seeing you again!
It is snowing out. Not sure how long the geese will stick around now. I guess we got very lucky and timed it right as the weather sounds crappy. Good for deer hunting though. We have a week with no hunters now and then our whitetail season begins. I am looking forward to that, as it is looking to be a banner year again for that. I will try to keep a log going on that also.
One last note. Freddy Zink, cameraman and crew arrived here Friday night. They had a good time at the DU banquet and then went out Saturday morning to a field that Brandon found for them and had a limit shoot of Lesser Canada's and some ducks. Sounds like the footage was good, so be looking for that. They are spotting for tomorrows hunt and I hope that the snow and cold weather did not move all our birds out yet. I think there will be lots around for a little while yet and I hope to get a chance to hunt with Freddy for a day or two. I will keep you posted on that. But this is the end of our guided 2004 goose season. Brandon has headed to Green Lake to Deer camp to start getting things ready there. Thanks to everybody that has checked this out and I hope you have enjoyed watching our awesome season as much as I enjoyed showing it to you!
