CAMO?
Ok. Here is the deal with Camo. BEAR HUNTS - If you are hunting with a Bow in bear season and do not have a rifle with you. You can wear camo and no colours need to be worn.
WHITETAIL DEER - If you are hunting whitetail with a bow in October, you can wear camo. No colours needed. IF you are hunting with a bow in November when the rifle season is on, you must wear colours.

COLOURS?
All that is need for colours is a white or orange jacket. A orange or white or red hat or toque will also be required. Pants can be camo.

DO WE HAVE HEATED BLINDS?
Yes. All Mr.Buddy heaters are supplied as well as the propane to work them for your hunt at all three of our camps.

DO WE DO ARCHERY HUNTS?
Yes. We do one week of Whitetail Archery at the end of October. We will take 15-16 hunters in for this week. Hunters can bring up there bows and hunt throughout November also. But it is a colder hunt and hard to sit in a tree stand all day with no heater. OUR BEAR HUNTS are primarily all set up for the Bow hunter in mind. I would say 90% of our bear hunts are done with a bow. CAMO is allowed when you are archery hunting only. You must wear your colours if you have a rifle with you.

HOW COLD IS IT WHEN I WILL BE HUNTING?

In the past five years the weather seems to have warmed up a lot. Temps in the morning can be below freezing. The appropriate clothing and the stands that Buck Paradise have will keep you comfortable. In extreme weather we have heaters.

WHAT KIND OF STANDS DO I USE?

We have all kinds of stands. We us ladder stands, lock on, permanent tree stands, ground blinds, elevated blinds (8-10 feet up), double bow blinds and 1 man pop up tent blinds.

WHEN IS THE RUT?

The rut in Saskatchewan can run any time in November. The pre-rut is usually in the second week in November with bucks chasing. Does usually are not receptive. Week 3 and 4 in November usually brings the peak rut activity. In recent years the weather seems to affect the rut a little more!

WHAT CALIBER OF GUN SHOULD I USE?

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE TROPHY THAT I HARVEST?

When you harvest your trophy of a life time you have two options. First, we cape the animal and freeze the hide and clean up the skull for transport back home with you. Secondly, we cape the animal and ship it to a taxidermist within our province.

DO YOU HAVE RADIOS?

Yes, we have radios to communicate between guides and hunters. This adds another safety and convenience factor.

HOW MANY HUNTERS IN CAMP?
Green Lake camp - 14-16 hunters
Paradise Hill camp - 10-12 hunters
Pierce Lake camp - 8-10 hunters

WHAT IS THE HUNTER PER GUIDE RATIO?

We run 2-3 hunters to 1 guide in our camp. You travel from camp to a staging area and then use a four-wheeler or boat to reach the stand site.

WHAT ARE THE NORMAL TIPS?

Tips are not expected but they are appreciated. Our cooks and guides work very hard to make your hunt a trip of a lifetime. Most clients use 10 - 15% of the total hunt cost as a guide. Most clients give the cooks $100 for there week of hard work.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE TO HARVEST WHILE I AM THERE?

Presently in Saskatchewan we have a 1 deer limit. When you harvest your animal the hunt is over. We have the capability to set up other ranch hunts with other outfitters if you are interested. Buck Paradise is totally fair chase in its hunts with over 500 000 acres of prime whitetail deer habitat under its belt.

IS THERE AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION?

We do not offer airport transportation. It is your responsibility to get from the airport to the lodge and we will take care of you after that. In the goose hunting season, you will be asked to take your rental vehicle to the fields following our guides trucks and trailers.

IS THERE CELL SERVICE?

There is cell service in all areas. Wether you carrier works up here or not is unknown, but we see that most of our clients cell phones do work. We do have fax machines at all camps and there is limited high speed internet access at all the camps.

FLYING TO CANADA?

An excess baggage fee will apply to cases containing more than two rifles. You can check up to two shotguns and two shotgun cases. Ammunition is limited to 11 lbs (5 kg). An excess baggage fee will apply to cases containing more than two shotguns.

WEAPONS - DRIVING TO CANADA?

Handguns, semi-automatic and automatic weapons are prohibited in Canada. Silencers are also banned as well as any knife that opens by spring action. Hunting and sporting guns are allowed in provided they are going to be used for sport, or for competition. You may need to provide proof of this, such as a permit from a Canadian firearms registrar. Hunters are permitted 200 rounds of ammunition before fees are imposed and competitors are allowed 1500 rounds. ALL WEAPONS MUST BE DECLARED AT THE BORDER! Failure to do so will result in confiscation of the weapon and criminal charges. A Firearms Declaration can be bought for $50 and will be good for one year.

Information from a reader from Massachusetts:

• If you are taking hunting guns to Canada, be CERTAIN that you fill out the US Customs form 4457 with description of gun (cameras, Etc.)& serial numbers and present to US guys before leaving US (so they will have record that you took them out & didn't purchase in Canada). Also have a Canadian Firearms Declaration all filled out when entering Canada to save time & this will serve as your gun license while hunting & to buy ammo if needed. Present these forms to Customs when returning & it will be a breeze. If you take Migratory birds back to US, make sure you fill out a USF&W declaration & that the birds are tagged & have a wing on or they will be confiscated.
   

Other banned weapons include: mace, nunchaku sticks, brass knuckles, belt-buckle knives, blowguns, stun guns, trigger enhancing devices, finger rings with blades, and spiked wristbands and collars. If you feel that you were treated unfairly, note the officer's badge number and name, and ask to see the supervisor. If this doesn't get you anywhere, write a letter of complaint to the port director at that particular point of entry. This also applies to US Customs when re-entering the States. Remember to be polite.
