The following questions are designed to answer some of the
most common concerns that first time hunters have.
HOW COLD IS IT WHEN I WILL BE HUNTING?
In the past five years the weather seems to have warmed up a lot. Temps in the morning can be below freezing. The appropriate clothing and the stands that Buck Paradise have will keep you comfortable. In extreme weather we have heaters.
WHAT KIND OF STANDS DO I USE?
We have all kinds of stands. We us ladder stands, lock on, permanent tree stands, ground blinds, elevated blinds (8-10 feet up), double bow blinds and 1 man pop up tent blinds.
WHEN IS THE RUT?
The rut in Saskatchewan can run any time in November. The pre-rut is usually in the second week in November with bucks chasing. Does usually are not receptive. Week 3 and 4 in November usually brings the peak rut activity. In recent years the weather seems to affect the rut a little more!
WHAT CALIBER OF GUN SHOULD I USE?
The most common caliber is a 300. 7mm is also common. The bucks in our area have tremendous body size, so you want some knock down power.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE TROPHY THAT I HARVEST?
When you harvest your trophy of a life time you have two options. First, we cape the animal and freeze the hide and clean up the skull for transport back home with you.
Secondly, we cape the animal and ship it to a taxidermist within our province.
DO YOU HAVE RADIOS?
Yes, we have radios to communicate between guides and hunters. This adds another safety and convenience factor.
HOW MANY HUNTERS IN CAMP?
Beatty camp - 8-9 hunters
Green Lake camp - 18-20 hunters
Paradise Hill camp - 10-12 hunters
Pierce Lake camp - 8-10 hunters
WHAT IS THE HUNTER PER GUIDE RATIO?
We run 2 hunters to 1 guide in our camp. You travel from camp to a staging area and then use a four-wheeler to reach the stand site.
WHAT ARE THE NORMAL TIPS?
Tips are not expected but they are appreciated. Our cooks and guides work very hard to make your hunt a trip of a lifetime. Most clients use 5-10% of the total hunt cost as a guide.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE TO HARVEST WHILE I AM THERE?
Presently in Saskatchewan we have a 1 deer limit. When you harvest your animal the hunt is over. We have the capability to set up other ranch hunts with other outfitters if you are interested. Buck Paradise is totally fair chase in its hunts with over 500 000 acres of prime whitetail deer habitat under its belt.
IS THERE AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION?
We do not offer airport transportation. It is your responsibility to get from the airport to the lodge and we will take care of you after that. In the goose hunting season, you will be asked to take your rental vehicle to the fields following our guides trucks and trailers.
IS ALCOHOL ALLOWED?
Alcohol is allowed in the camp, but it is not supplied, please bring your own. We offer a full selection of soft drinks and snacks.
IS THERE CELL SERVICE?
There is cell service in all areas except at our Beatty camp. Wether you carrier works up here or not is unknown, but we see that most of our clients cell phones do work. We do have fax machines at all camps except the Beatty camp and there is limited high speed internet access at all the camps except for Beatty.
