BUCK PARADISE - DAILY JOURNAL

Aug.29/10 - Brandon you rock. Thanks for updating on here. I have been busy getting the combine ready. Picked up some custom work again this fall and hoping to get started on it this upcoming week. I have also started taking my class 1A drivers test. I want it so that I can drive semi's and stuff like that. It seems you just about need one these days to be able to legally do anything. So, ya, I have had to study.... I remember now why I loved school so much. Not.... It is good for me though. We have been shooting a few elk and some cool sheep that Sheldon has found. I am looking forward to seeing Brandon here in the very near future. Have not seen my cuz all summer long since we went to his awesome fishing lodge up at Cree Lake. Shellys mom and dad and brother and sister all here for the weekend so I better get and go have some breakfast with them all then its out to the shop to get more things ready for harvest. Was busy last week with trucks hauling my peas. Finally got rid of them which is a good thing. Have to make room for the upcoming crops which look great. I am hearing a few geese at night migrating this way and nothing gets me more excited. I LOVE IT.... Have a great day all. Good job Brandon on everything you do buddy.

Grant

Oh ya. Great round of UFC 118 fights last night. Loved it.

Aug.27/10- Well my sunny B.C weather has shit the bed. I am now looking at a mud infested work site with more rain falling! I hope Grant is getting the nice weather he wants after all the rain they have been getting. There are a bunch more pictures on the web page that the cam trackers snapped for us! check them out in the 2010 deer gallery. I put quite a few of them on there, I hope it keeps you guys/girls busy for awhile. Thanks to everyone who's writing e-mails feel free to keep them coming. I have another 5 days at work then I get 6 weeks off to hunt geese and get everything ready for deer hunting. Hope to see most of you in a few months! "Live each day like it's your last, you'll get it right eventually"! Have a good night all!

Aug.23/10- Beautiful sunny weather here today up in northern B.C. I hope Grant gets some good weather back in Paradise Hill to help dry things up and get all that crop ready for harvest. I have put some pictures in the 2010 deer gallery of some bucks caught on cam tracker. I will continue to put them in there as we get more pictures! The cameras are a lot of work as when we start putting the hay out we usually end up with over 1000 pictures every 2 or 3 days. Its great to see the numbers of deer but very time consuming when you have 30 to 40 cameras out, that leaves a guy with 30,000 pictures plus to look through. I could only imagine and well it may become reality when and if Buck Paradise gets a camera set up on every single spot in 3 diffrent camps we could be searching through 300,000 plus pictures every 2 days? We may have another job opening if anyones interested haha. That may be a little much and some people still like to hunt based on the good ol facts of sign and placement, and I dont blame them. The cameras are good, but they also have a bad part to them as you sometimes will base where you hunt on what the cameras show. We all know that we're out in the wild in Saskatchewan and really who knows what's out there? The amount of land that Buck Paradise has access to hunt is HUGE, There has been many instances where we have had a camera on a spot for months with great deer captured on film, you put a guy in there to hunt and he comes out with a nice buck that no ones ever seen before. Thats what gets me going... you never know what your going to see when you get out there! I Love It!

Well those are my thoughts on cam trackers, everyone can look at them their own way i guess, however, I live in Saskatchewan, a lot of my time is spent in the bush in Saskatchewan, the reality of it is the cameras are a machine and may help..... but then again maybe not??

haha take care all. feel free to fire me e-mails with your thoughts on cam trackers! I'd like to know what you guys/girls think!

Aug.20/10 - Hello All!!! Brandon here again,

Well Goose season will be here in less than a month and Deer season in 2 1/2 months! I am ready to hang up my work coveralls and put on my camo and get out there after the birds and monster whitetail! We just purchased a bunch of new cam trackers and put some out in the bush to get an idea early of whats out there and try and pattern some of these huge bucks. Its still very early as the deer are in full velvet and finishing off growing their horns. We have already caught some pictures of a few nice deer! I posted them on the home page and will put more up as we get them! its hard to get good pictures this time of the year as there is a ton of natural food out there for the deer to eat and also the bears are quite fond of anything you put out for the deer and then they also like to chew the crap out of the cameras. Once the berries come out and the bears move onto eating those we will be able to put a few more cameras out and hopefully have more pictures.

I have been busy working in the oil field for the past year and with the purchase of my familys new fly in fishing lodge I have kept extremley busy. We fished up there through the month of June and it was amazing. Some of the best fishing I have ever done. I hope to keep that place for a long time and turn it into the same type of business Buck Paradise is where its not just a job its what motivates you to work as hard as you can to share the opportunity of what Saskatchewan has to offer with whoever is willing to come out and appreciate it for what it is.

I hope all of our friends, hunters and fellow patrons have their A game packed for when they show up this fall cause its going to be a good one with Buck Paradise! I will be at Grants for the goose season and then up in Goodsoil for the deer so I hope to get a chance to see everyone again. I best get back to work so I can get home in time to HUNT! Anyone who wants to bull shit, give a shit, scream shit, text shit, write shit, or send shit can get a hold of Grant. Anyone who is in a good mood and wants to "shoot the shit" or is wondering whats up in Sasky or how I am doing give me a call or fire me a E-mail! (1-780-870-6510 or Brandon_schreiber@hotmail.com)

Take care everyone, I am looking forward to the next few months!

Aug.18/10 - We have started off the season. Our good friend Dwayne has come to see us and has taken two awesome elk one scoring 469 inches and the other 420 plus a cool looking sheep. Pics are on the homepage. Sheldon who most of you know is one of my guides and he found some big elk and these sheep at a great price. Call me if you are interested. The crops are turning nicely and I am super excited about the harvest and the upcoming waterfowl season. The smell of fall is somewhat in the air and I can not WAIT.... Been busy in the office as Pat and Nicoles last two shows Driven that aired the past two weeks were with Buck Paradise Outfitters. So the phone and emails have been busy which is a good thing. Plus we are busy getting ready for harvest. I still have last years crop to haul out which should go next week. That is also a good things as harvest is not to far away. I still have great openings for our upcoming waterfowl season, so please call me if you are interested. It is looking to be a excellent fall. I have to run my grain truck to get some work done on it. Later. G

August 11/10 - Good day to all my friends out there. Things are going good. Been busy getting ready for harvest and selling some hunts. Waterfowl season is fast approaching us. No sign of birds yet, but it is early. The crops look awesome and I am so excited to get harvesting them. I took on some custom work for a fellow for 500 acres of peas that I hope will be ready in a couple of weeks to go to work on. This will help out on payments. I have been looking for a newer grain truck and I might go with a semi and trailer that are used. I dont need a new one for the size of my operation. I think we are heading to Green Lake this weekend to check on things there and spend at least one weekend up there to enjoy the lake and maybe do some fishing. It will be good to get up there to see how things are going. I still need waterfowl hunters and it is looking to be a awesome season. Lots of water, great crops that look like they will somewhat be on time this year for harvest. I am excited about it all. Our buddy Brandon Schreiber is in the hospital with a sinus infection. Hopefully he gets out of there sooner than later maybe today even. He will be back the beginning of Sept and I sure look forward to spending some time with him scouting for geese and killing them. Take care! Grant

I got a kick out of this one. Hope you all do to...

Made in Canada EH?

A condom factory burns down in the States, the largest one in the country. President Obama is awakened at 4am by the telephone.

"Sorry to bother you at this hour, Sir, but there is an emergency! I've just received word that the Durex factory in Birmingham has burned to the ground. It is estimated that the entire USA supply of condoms will be gone by the end of the week."

Obama: "Oh Damn! The economy will never be able to cope with all those unwanted babies. We'll be ruined. We'll have to ship some in from Mexico."

Telephone voice says, "Bad idea.... The Mexicans will have a field day with this one. We'll be a laughing stock. What about Canada?"

Obama: "Okay, I'll call Stephen Harper. I'd better tell him we need five million condoms that are ten inches long and three inches thick. That way, they'll continue to respect us as Americans."

Three days later, a delighted President Obama inspects the 10,000 boxes that had just arrived. He opens one box to check if they were what he wanted.

He finds five million red condoms, 10 inches long and 3 inches thick.  Each has a small red Maple Leaf printed on one side. On the other side there is some writing that says
'MADE IN CANADA - SIZE MEDIUM'.

August 03/10 - Back again! I just got back from spending 10 days with my good friend Brian Bowers on his boat in Alaska grinding it out for King Salmon. Another great trip. Fishing started off really good as Bowers was on a role with some of his other friends who were fishing with him prior to us had landed a 72 lber and a 68 lber and several other awesome fish. Three fellow Canadians joined my on the trip again this year. Glen, Jason and Barcley. Most of you know Barc through waterfowl hunting with us up here. We all caught good Kings in the 35-55 lb range. We had to work hard though for our sockeye salmon. They were in the river thick when we first got there and because of that the Alaska Fish and Game allowed the netters to net at the mouth of the river more days in which resulted in tougher fishing for Kings and Sockeye on the river. They monitor the Sockeye closely and for reasons I am not sure about only want about 600 000 up the river to spawn. When they get the count the commercial guys get more days. Well it was a strong Sockeye count before we got there and like I said before it slows the sport fishing down a lot. Oh well, you will have that. We still had a great time and spent many hours on  the boat but it usually paid off. Glen and Jason had left earlier. Jason had rented a car and wanted to drive around Alaska a bit before I got there and that he did. Well when him and Glen left Kenai to go back to Anchorage to get on there flights, they were late. They had to spend a extra night in Anchorage. The rest of us thought it was funny. I was up at 3:00 AM Yesterday morning. Suppose to be 5:00 AM but I set my alarm wrong. I got up and got everything loaded up and ready to go and grabbed Bowers. We are walking out of the cabin door when Bowers says to me Grant it is 3:00 AM, I then realized I set my Alarm for back home time.. Oh well back to sleep for a hour or so, but this did not go so well as I was up and ready to go. Needless to say, I slept a lot on the long plane ride home yesterday. So Barcley was suppose to fly out yesterday also on a different flight AND he was 5 minutes late for some reason and they would not let him on the plane, SO he had to spend the night also in Anchorage and will fly out at 3:00 PM this afternoon. Do not miss that one Barcley... lol... Now I am back at home. Lots of mail to go through and some phone calls to go through, I had my computer with me and cell with me, so I was able to keep up with everyone while I was gone and do some work there so I am not to bad. I am even washing my own clothes. Shelly and the boys went to Calgary for a few days to spend time with her family while I was gone. It will be good to see them... I will also be getting ready for another community fundraiser that is happening this week. It is the Gord Bamford Caberet in Paradise Hill at the Arena this weekend. We are hoping for a 1000 people but we have a lot of tickets to sell yet. For all my local friends who read this, please call me if you want a ticket. I have them available. I have also sold all of my last years pea crop and after talking with the Grain Buyers today we are hoping next week that I can start hauling them. The crops look magnificent around these parts and I am excited about the harvest. Lots to do and lots to get ready for waterfowl, fall bear and WHITETAIL are all around the corner. I may get one more weekend up at Green Lake as we have not been there all summer and I hope that works out and then I guess I can say the summer holidays are over for me. I Loved every minute of them and I am going to love every minute of our waterfowl, fall bear and harvest season that is right around the corner. If you are on facebook and want to become my friend that would be great. I have posted a bunch of pics on there of my Alaska fishing trip. I am going to go jump on my exercise bike and see how that goes. I have been very slack on it this year and it is time to get back at it... Later all! Hope you are having a great summer. Grant

July 19/10-Wow. Time flys in these summer months. We sure do enjoy them up here as they are pretty short. Usually 2 and a half months of nice lake weather is all we get here in Canada so it is good to enjoy it when it is nice out. Shelly and I got back from Reno on July 4th. We had a lot of yard work to catch up with and some office work also. So we went hard for 3 days with the boys helping us out and then headed to the lake for the weekend. We spent a few nice days up there and then we were back home working again. Last Wednesday we picked garbage at the Lloydminster fair. We did this as the fair association had hired our community to pick the garbage. It is a good easy fundraiser and we did our share. Thursday morning after another 6 tenths of rain the boys and I went and cut grass at the cemetary by our farm where Dad is. My sister is doing well after her surgery and is seeing some progress very slowly but it is progress and we are very excited for her. We then went Thursday afternoon back to the lake to spend a few days with some friends and pulled the camper home today. I will be in the office for the next few days. Take care all. Next update will be soon. Later.G

June 28/10 - Good morning from beautiful sunny hot Reno. We finished the B&C show last weekend and had a nice time. The show was a little slow, but we knew that going into it. My hunt sold for a good price to a nice fellow from California. He is bringing his son and has lots of hunting friends so I think it will be a win win for B&C and Buck Paradise. Chad and Melanie have been the greatest hosts. We have been to a AAA ball game which was awesome. Reno just built a new ball stadium a year or two ago and it is a awesome place. Saturday after the B&C show was finished  we went to the finals of the Reno Rodeo. Another great time. We met up with Katie Stanley after the Rodeo. It was great to see her again. Katie is a world champion duck and goose caller and one of the nicest girls out there, she is off to Greece this week. Last night we went to Chads Moms for supper. Chads brothers Clay and Clint were there with there families and Chads Mom cooked up a delicious meal for us. Thanks for that Faith it was great. Spending time with Chads brothers and there families is always a lot of fun. They are great people and Shelly and I feel very fortunate for knowing them. Shelly and I are off to Lake Tahoe today to spend a few days over there relaxing and seeing what Lake Tahoe all has to offer. We are hoping Chad and Melanie can join us for a day there also. Other big news is that Chad and Melanie are expecting there first baby due December. We are very excited for them as they will make great parents. Congratulations Chad and Melanie. Well I better run. Take care all. Talk again at you soon. Grant.

June 24/10 - Sitting in Seattle, WA. with Shelly. I am enjoying a nice cool JD with diet. Have about another hour to chill before we catch our next flight to Reno. I hope we can drum up some business at the B and C show. I can not use the  and symbol or it screws things up on here. Just in case you were wondering. So I am just sitting here listening to some Jamey Johnson and getting excited to see Chad and his wife Melanie. Big news on there end also. Chad and Mel are going to be parents. Mel is 3 months pregnant. Congrats guys. That is awesome. Another new hunter in the field down the road for sure. I was talking to Pat and Nicole on Skype today also. They are heading to Oshkosh, WI. They are doing a show there. So stop by if you read this and say hi to them for me. They will have some good stories of Buck Paradise I am sure.... We will be down in Reno for a  little bit as we have the show to do this weekend and then we are going to hang out with Chad and maybe go to Lake Tahoe for a few days and back to Reno for the weekend to attend Chads Premier party celebrating Season 2 of the Fowl life. That will be a lot of fun and I will be able to see a lot of my hunting brothers. Crops look great at home, getting some rain and things are looking great. That is all I know for know. Take care all!. G

June 22/10 - Sold out Draw No.1 for the 6 day whitetail hunt and the winner is Bill Schagel from Prescott, Michigan. Congratulations Bill and thanks to everyone who purchased a ticket. I may cancel some of the other draws that have not sold a ticket and put the Draw 1 on again. I will post some pics of the drawing on the 2010 spring bear gallery. Thanks again.

June 21/10 - First official day of summer. Wow. Longest day of the year also today and then they start getting shorter again... That kinda sucks. Wish I was still bear hunting as I could go out there and sit on the longest day of the year. Garet and I did set one up North of home with good intentions to hunt it. It got hit early and then my Ranger broke down again. Same thing as last time with the front diff all buggered up. It is back in Meadow Lake. I had it loaded with bait ready to go to our bait when I noticed it was screwed. So that is the end of bear hunting for this spring. Before you know it, we will be putting out bait for our fall bear hunters. I still have openings for our waterfowl hunts. Please call me if you are interested. THERE ARE ONLY 7 TICKETS LEFT ON LOTTO 1 FOR THE WHITETAIL DEER HUNTS. Call today to get a ticket and your chance 1 out of 50 to win a 6 day whitetail deer hunt with Buck Paradise Outfitters. Shelly and I leave for Reno on Thursday. We have a booth at the Boone and Crockett show down there this upcoming weekend. We are going to stay with Chad and I am looking forward to that. Chad got to spend time with one of our favorite country singers yesterday. Jamey Johnson. He is awesome and Chad had him auto graph some things for me. I hope to meet him one day also. Then Shelly and I are going to hang out in Reno for a few days and then on the following weekend is Chads premier party of season 2 of the Fowl life. It should be a fun time. Then we will be home July 4th and get the yard caught up and the office work and hopefully if the weather is nice spend a couple of days with the boys at the lake. Our summers are short, so we have to enjoy them while we can. A belated Happy Fathers day to all you Dads out there. I hope yours was as good as mine. The boys made me breakfast and they did a hell of a job. I then went to Green Lake and picked up the pontoon boat and brought it back home and took it down to a local lake close to home and spent some time with my Mom and Grant and Peggy Helboe and Shelly. The boys were quading with there friends but they showed up at meal time. I have a little grill that hangs over the side of the boat and we grilled some hamburgers right out on the lake. It was fun and I enjoyed the day. Got home about at 8 and then cleaned up the boat and put it in the shop. Well I have to hang some blinds today and then spend a little time in here I guess and hopefully get outside to enjoy the beautiful day. The crops around here look awesome. We are very fortunate as not to far east and south of us they are drowned out. Only 2 thirds of the crop are seeded in the province. Even parts of southern Aberta have been hit hard and also Manitoba. Millions of acres will not be seeded this year because of it. Maybe it will help drive up the grain prices a bit. It sucks that you have to see someone suffer so that others can capitalize on it. Well that is all I know for now. Did I spell that right Brandon you little shit weasel. Brandon is still up at Cree Lake and by the sounds of it, he is having a great time. I am glad. Later all. Grant.

June 12/10 - Hello Everyone, I am up at Cree Lake Saskatchewan at my Brandon and Adam Schreibers place. They have bought the Cree Lake Fishing lodge and it is awesome. The cabins are a little older but in excellent shape. The food is excellent and the fishing up here is incredible. Brandon and I went out last night and in about 2 hours we caught over 30 lake trout. We turned them all back. Today I went out with Brandon and helped him put out a new bear bait as he has a few guys coming up to try and shoot a bear. It started to thunder and lighting pretty good but we got the job done. I wanted to bring a few Laker Trout home so before we put the bear bait out we caught 1/2 a dozen and then I cleaned them up and used the guts and heads for bear bait. The pike fishing is incredible also. 20 lbers are quite a regular thing. It is actually hard to catch a 5 lber for lunch and eating. We never keep the big ones even at Green Lake as they are the reproducers. Like I said earlier I caught those few Lake trouts and I am going to get them on the smoker when I get home. I will be heading home tomorrow with Adam. It is a 5 hour quad ride over a very rocky rough road. All of there clients fly in from La Ronge. I am going to help Adam and Brandon book trips for this camp. I am telling you in all of my years of fishing. I have never seen it so good. There are trout and big Pike everywhere you go. Call me if you are interested in a great 5 day fishing trip. If you are local you can save a few bucks and drive to La Ronge and fly out of there if you are out of the US you would fly into Saskatoon and then to La Ronge. Flights from Saskatoon are paid for as part of your hunt and the same goes for at La Ronge. If you are flying out of Saskatoon $3750.00 for 5 days. If you can drive to La Ronge the cost from there would be $3400.00. If you are interested call me and I will help you set it for you and direct you the right direction. I will be home sometime late tomorrow night. It has a been a great trip up here and I am so lucky to have these guys as cousins. I guarantee you will have a great time. They also have internet access up via satellite and also satellite tv. We are going to watch the UFC fights tonight, how awesome is that to be this far in the North and have the best fishing in the world and watch UFC. I will be busy with booking hunts and helping Shelly around the yard and hope to get back up in this beautiful country again soon. Take care all. Grant.

June 7/10 - Please copy and paste this link on your browser to see the News clip on Lenora my sister and her MS. Thank you.

June 7/10
- Well we wrapped up our bear season last week. Skip and I finished cleaning up the camp on Tuesday and headed home that afternoon. All the barrels and stands are out of the bush and we are done for another spring. I had two barrels of fresh meat scraps left, so I brought them home and on Wednesday, Garet and I headed north of the farm and put them out. I want to try to get Garet a bear and we have till the end of the month to do so. I was busy last week when I got home. Lots of things to catch up on. On Friday we loaded up the camper and headed South to my sister Lenora and her families place for the weekend as they were throwing a fund raiser rodeo for her to raise money so that she can go out of Country to get a simple surgery that might help her MS. The support at the rodeo was awesome and I hope this surgery helps Lenora out. Even if it just contains it would be great and anything she gains above that is a bonus she says. The crops are coming up beautiful and the weather has been a little cool but nice. The Draws are going good and I am going to get working on them and try to sell out draw 1 as there are only 22 tickets of 50 left to sell on that one and then I can make the draw. It will be exciting to see who will win. I promise it will be more than fair and I will video the drawings. I am going to be working around the office and yard and shop this week and hopefully that bait that Garet and I put out gets hit and we can go try to get him a bear. The bears season was awesome and I thank all of my hunters, guides, cooks and cleaners for all there help in making it a fun great season. Later. G

May 25/10
- It is raining as I write this today. We had a nice evening last night. Congratulations to my very good friend Stan Burke. This is Stans 11th bear hunt with us and I could not be more happy for him as he arrowed his biggest bodied bear last night on the lake with Corey Jenkins. Pat and Nicole from Driven TV are up with us this week and it is great to have the two of them back in camp. Only the one bear came in last night but we will see what happens tonight. I am hoping the rain will let up in a bit and clear up for the afternoon and hopefully the bears will come out and be hungry. I guess we will see. Great bunch of people in camp this week. Lots of new ones and a few faithful repeats. Brian Bowers will be rolling in this evening and I am looking forward to seeing him. Shelly and the boys have been busy cleaning shops and some of our building out on the farm. That is great and it will be good to see them this weekend. Well I better go figure were we are going to hunt everyone this afternoon on this Tuesday rainy day. Booking for 2011 bear are going good. Call me and lets line it up. I am hoping to book enough guys to hunt a week or two in Paradise Hill next year. We have gave that area a big rest and there should be some monster bears roaming around. Later all!

May 23/10
- Hi all. Well we had a fantastic week last week. Met some new AWESOME people from all over the states and even a couple from Eastern Canada. We had 16 hunters in camp and we were 15/16. We would have been 100% but we had a good fellow hit one and we could not find it. The weather was hot at the beginning of last week. in the 80s for the first 3 days. Beautiful hot weather. Today, not so much. It is pouring rain and has been doing so all night. But we need the rain to.... My wheat, barley and oats are all seeded and Garet and Ian have been picking stones that came out while during the seeding. Thanks boys. Miss you guys. Shelly has been busy planting her garden and trees around the yard. I am sure she will be happy when I get back home also. I will be at Green Lake for another week and 1/2 and then when we are all finished cleaning up our bait barrels and stands we will head home. I hope to come back up to Green Lake as much as possible as it is great up here. We have another full camp coming in this week, with some new faces and a few old ones coming through the door. I look forward to it. Hopefully it quicks raining up here soon and lets it dry up a bit before we hit the trails tomorrow, but it looks pretty socked in. It is what it is. Well I am going to go post Scott Anderson bear on the sight now and I am sure some hunters will be starting to arrive soon.

May 17/10
- Hunters are all out in the stands. We had a few guys come in early and have been seeing a wack of bears. Need to shoot some as they are hard on the bait supply, but we should be okay. My friend Hans is still here from Switzerland and is having fun taking the guys out fishing and filletting the pikes as he calls him. Great guy and great to have around camp. Thanks for all your help Hans. It is appreciated. Great group of people in here this week. Some new boys from Texas and we had a heck of a good time last night. A few of my good repeat hunters are also here. Another great bear camp. I love it. Weather is HOT..... Got a little red yesterday as Shelly and I headed down the lake on the pontoon boat for a little relaxation before the hunters arrived. It was awesome. The boys were up and were a good hand as we all went baiting on Saturday and got caught in a little rain storm. One good bear down last night. Hunters name is Norb Bennet Sr. Great guy and shot a great 350 lb black bear. Not bad for your first bear I would say. His son also shot one, but unfortunately we have not found it yet. Skip is going back out tonight to look for a couple more hours and hopefully we find it. Norb Jr. said he was a monster. I hope Skip can find him. I am waiting on two new hunters to arrive and when they do I will get them licensed up and take them out to a stand for the evening. Better go. Take care all. Book a bear hunt for next year. They are so much fun and we have a LOT of bears.
Later G out.

May 14/10 - Rebaited all of the baits yesterday. Everything is getting hammered. To say the least I think we are feeding a few bears. Skip showed up Wednesday. Good to see my Brother in Law again. It did not take him long to remember where some of our baits were at. Today we are fixing a bridge that takes us to a spot we call Wood pecker and then also fixing a washout on a road that we use a lot. I rolled my Ranger in it the other morning, so I am going to take the skid steer down there and fix it. I kinda had a bad luck week. When I was at home on Tuesday doing the farm day, I was Heavy harrowing and i turned to sharp and broke off some pieces on the inside of the dual.... We got it home and it is getting fixed. I was  Pissed off about that. Wednesday I am heading back to Green Lake and smash the front window with a rock on my skid steer. I was pissed about that. And then my ranger quit on me in the middle of the bush leaving Brandon and I stranded for about 4 hours before Kevin came and found us. Not sure what is wrong with it. It is back at the dealer ship and then some how, I twisted off the front drive shaft on the drivers side of it. Did not notice that till we were pulling it back to the lodge. Oh well. Shit happens. All good though and today is a new day. Hunters arriving tonight. Scott Anderson from Back land outdoors is joining us today for a hunt. I look forward to meeting him. Then the rest of the hunters will start to arrive on Sunday. Skinning bears hopefully soon. Take care all. G. PS I have started to post names on the link of the lottery. Some are filling up. Buy a ticket. You never know. Later.

May 10/10
- 31 Bear baits out. Lots of work. Corey and I put most of them out by ourselves. Kevin rolled in three days ago and Sheldon rolled in yesterday. Good to have the guys back. Skip will be here Wednesday and so will my good friend Brian Bowers. Looking forward to seeing all of my friends again and meeting some new ones also. The baits are getting hammered and we are feeding them heavy. Should make for some good action we all hope. Going with Sheldon today to rebait his side and put one more last new bait out. We put a lot of new baits out this year in different areas. Hoping it pays off big time. Shelly is finally home from Calgary. We are all heading back home tomorrow and will have a farm and shop day there and get everything caught up so that we can get back up here and take care of our hunters. I have a camera company coming in on Friday and people coming and going through out the next two weeks. With the reduced price, we managed to book up our spring bear hunts. Thanks to everyone that is coming up. When I head home tomorrow, we will be harrowing, picking stones, Harrow packing, getting seed, poisoning gophers, working Shellys Garden and hauling new black dirt into it. So we will be busy. Well I better get out there and help Sheldon load up and see how the baits are looking. Peace out. G

May 5th/2010
- Getting ready to head out baiting some more bears. Been busy in the field lately and I spent the last two days bouncing around on my old tractor. Some sad news of last night. My good friend and one of my best guides Corey Jenkins has had a great job opportunity and will be leaving us After the bear season. He will finish the spring bear and then he will be employed at Rech Tech, were he will be selling quads, snowmobiles, ect. I am happy for Corey but we will miss him at Buck Paradise, but I am sure he will be around on his time off. We hope so anyways. Thank you Corey for all your years of hard work and dedication to Buck Paradise. So, I need a new guide and guess who I got. My good ol brother in Law Skip Selk is coming back to Saskatchewan. He has sold most of his mule deer tags to another outfitter, so he has some time to come back and help me out. He will fill Corey's shoes well. Actually, my bear bookings are going awesome and he will be here this spring May 12th a week from today to help us with the spring bear hunt. Skip was awesome when he helped us out a few years ago and it will be good to have him back. Corey has everything loaded up. I have been on the phone all morning so I better get out there to give him a hand. The shops look great. You will all love them when you see them. Kevin and Sheldon will be here on the weekend. Corey, Jason and I just about have all the baits out. We will start rebaiting on Friday and getting our cameras out. I have 800 acres to be seeded this spring. Things are busy and that is GOOD... Take care all! G out.

April 30/2010
- Ya, over two weeks. I suck. And a lot has been happening. The lottery is going well with the $100.00 tickets on the whitetail hunt going pretty good. I am still waiting for my website guy to get me a link so that I can post who has all bought tickets and everyone can see how the lottery is moving along. I will put another bug in his ear. Well we have started baiting bears. Corey and I went out last Friday late in the day in a snow storm to get things rolling. We were cold as hell when we got back. Then we started to epoxy our floors in our shops this week. They look awesome and I will post some pics in the 2010 bear gallery soon. It was a super busy week getting it all done, but we did. Weather is crappy. Raining, which we do need the moisture. Bears are hitting the baits hard that Corey and I put out last week. We went back tonight and as I was filling one up, I saw some movement through the bush and in came two smaller bears. Within about 7 feet of me. Corey has pics of me and the bears and again, I will get them posted soon. We have a great group of people coming up for the bear hunt. We have all our fields harrowed and our grass land that I just broke up looking pretty good. I am seeding 600 acres of wheat, 130 acres barley and 70 acres of oats this year. I am going to bed. I promise........ I will not take two weeks to get back on here. Take care all. Thanks for checking me out. G

April 15/2010 - Hi everyone. Yesterday was a tough day for me. Two years ago yesterday when Len left us. Still is heavy on our minds. We miss him a lot. Well we received a hell of a dump of snow here on Tuesday & Wednesday. Good heavy wet snow with tonnes of moisture in it. We needed it as things were dry. So the ground is white again, but it is very warm out today and the water is running. We never really saw that with the first thaw. There was more moisture in this last snow than there was in what we received all winter. Again, we needed it. Makes for happy ducks, farmers, ranchers, outfitters, ect. I am gettng some more bear bookings which is great. I have gave some pretty smoking deals, but we will have a season and I am looking so forward to it. My website guy is working on getting that link set up for the lottery so that I can start posting the hunters names on it as they buy. I have sold a few already. All good. That is it for now. Take care all. G

April 12/2010
- Well there is some interest in the Lottery and that is a good thing. My website guy will have a link on the homepage of this sight and on there I will put all the hunters names on the draw that they have bought into. This was a good weekend. First of congratulations to the Hawks on a awesome win over neighboring town of St. Walburg. The hawks have one the series and are the North Sask River Hockey league 2010 champs. And congrats to my friends on the St.Walburg team for winning the Provincial A with there team. Local hockey is officially over. After the game on Saturday night, a bunch of friends came out to the shop and we watched the UFC 112 I think it was. Great fights. Congrats to Matt Hughes for winning over Gracie. Myself, like everyone was disapointed in the final fight with Anderson Silva. It sucked. Anderson should have just got the job done instead of toying with the guy (who's name I can not remember right now). If Anderson fights GSP, it will be interesting, but I think Anderson would win. Not that I would want that, but I just think he would. I love the UFC. Anyways, I am working in my office today. We got some much needed moisture in the form of snow last weekend. That is a good thing. I have started breaking up grass last week and hopefully when it warms back up I will be back at that job. Other good news, is I got drawn for Alaska moose hunt with my good friend Matt Owens again this year. I would really like to take my boys and let them shoot a moose and a caribou and I would just watch. We will see. I have a big crop (hopefully) to take off this year. Later all. Grant...

April 07/10 - See, I told you I would come on here more often now that I have the Mac working on here. Well, I picked up some more meat scraps yesterday at P Hill. My freezer is getting damn full. We have a lot of bait and will be good for a tonne of stands. I just need more bear hunters. I have put up a new deal on the home page and it is 6-day bear hunt. All meals, accommodations, guide, care of trophy, fishing and equipment for that - $1500.00 plus a $750.00 kill fee plus the cost of the license. I sure hope this sparks some interest. You will also notice some good deals on the whitetail and waterfowl. Please check them out. There is a truckload of trail mix and gummy bears coming to me today from the states. Great bait. I am thinking of maybe heading out here today or tomorrow and putting up a couple of baits close to home for the boys and myself to hunt. I have only shot 1 black bear in my life. So, being that it is slow, I may just have to try to get one for myself this year. I am also going to go shoot some beavers that I will use for bait as I think I mentioned this yesterday.... Snow is all gone. Deer have dropped there horns and are growing BIG ones for this upcoming 2010 season. I might also get my tractor out of the shed and get it ready to do some Heavy Harrowing. It is drying up pretty fast, but there is some precipitation in the forecast. Well I better run. Take care all and have a great day and keep your chin up. I know it is hard in these times, but it will get better... Good quotes that I am going to use on here more and more.

"Positive things happen to Positive People" ---- I like this one a lot.

G out!

April 06/10 - Hello all. I know, it has been along time since I have been on here, and I will tell you why. I picked up this Mac computer back a couple of months ago and I when I went to update on here it would just scrunch everything together and made it hard to understand. So, being I was never on my old computer much anymore and using this one all the time, I just did not get on here to update. So today, I finally made the simple call to Mac Help and he told me to download Firefox and I did and I opened up my website through it and bang.... it worked. Very easy, only took about 2 minutes to download. So, I know will be on here more regularly updating everyone with what is going on.

Garet and his team "the rage" won there Provincial game vs Redvers 7-4 to become the Provincial C Bantam champs for the province of Saskatchewan. Garet did not want to play spring hockey so he is not. He did not unfortunately make the top 40 of 160 to go further on with the Zone team this summer. But I think he is okay with this. He needs a break. He played over 50 games this winter and with 2 practises per week that is a lot of hockey. I am still getting to watch hockey though as our Senior team is in the finals vs the rival town of St.Walburg. That series is tied at 2 and they play again tomorrow night.
Ian is doing great. Quading all over the place. He loves that. I traded his 4x4 yamaha Grizzly quad on a sport quad and actually made a little cash at doing it. I got him a 2006 Artic Cat 400 Something... He loves it. The thing was bought new last year and only road about 15 hours and it looks like it just came out of the box. So he is happy and is actually out on it somewhere right now. I just hope he is careful. A fellow from Lloydminster that I kinda know lost his 14 year old daughter last weekend due to a quad accident. My prayers go out to his family. I am constantly on Ian and Garet to be careful. Wouldn't it be nice to lock them in a glass ball and not have to worry about them. At there age I was burning all over the country. My quad was slower but still I had to be careful on it. All we can do is pray and hope they are careful.
I am going to head to Green Lake tomorrow. Been awhile since I have been up there. I have some bait showing up there. Bear bookings are very low and I might just hunt from the Paradise Hill camp this spring unless I can get a few more bookings. I will just have to get the bait and haul it home, but I will get it dropped off there for know. My walk in freezer at home is full of meat scraps and being that I do not have to chase hockey around this spring. I might go do some beaver hunting. It is excellent bear bait and a lot of fun hunting them. Plus you get a little for the pelts. I still have to go to town this afternoon and get a few more barrels of meat scraps there and then I will hopefully have enough for the season. Okay. Now that I have my Mac working so that I can properly work on my website. I PROMISE that I will update more often. Please call me if you are interested in a spring bear hunt. I can give you a heck of a deal. Thanks all! Grant

March 24/10 - Spent the weekend in Regina with Garet as he played with the Zone 7 team there for tryouts for the Sask First. This is where 160 of Sasks best 14-15 year olds play to make an elite team. We will not know for a couple of weeks if he made the cut. He had a ok tournament. Pretty nervous as there was a pile of scouts there watching. I felt he could have played better, but we were very proud for him making it this far. We got back home Sunday evening. On Tuesday, last night, we hosted a town called Redvers for the 1st game of 2 for the Provincial Final. We won 3-2. I was disapointed as we should have beaten this team a lot better than that. We will make the 9 hour bus ride down there starting on Saturday and play them Sunday night at 7:00. Hopefully we come home with a win and the provincial banner. Chelene Freyman, one of the moms from our team did a awesome report that hits the paper in there hometown called the Maidstone Mud. She has done a excellent job all winter keeping it up. Here is her last report.

Midwest Rage Downed in League Final...have Sights Set on Provincial Title
Part 1
The Rage had their eyes on the prize as they began the NEAHL tier 1 finals versus Macklin a couple of weeks ago. Game one was set in Maidstone, and it was a barn burner! Rage was first on the board with a goal 5 minutes in, but the Mohawks came back with one of their own. The Rage then scored once more in the first to lead 2-1. The second frame saw the Rage go up by two, but Macklin once again fought back with a lone goal. The third period was fast and furious, and just when it looked like the Rage would take game one, the Mohawks tied it up 3-3! This was heading to overtime! Ten minutes of sudden death solved nothing, so the teams took their intermission break and then began ANOTHER twenty minutes of period #5! With only eight minutes left in this period, a heartbreaker for the Rage as Macklin found the back of the net. Rage lose 4-3. Game two was a do or die scenario for the Rage back in Macklin on St. Paddy's Day.In a deja vu scene of game one, the Rage were first to score, the Mohawks came back right away to tie, the Rage scored two more unanswered to take the lead by 3-1 after one. A Mohawk goal in the second closed their gap, and at the beginning of the 3rd, they scored again to make a comeback with a 3-3 tie. Unlike game one, though, an overtime was not needed. Macklin scored goal #4 in regulation time to overcome the Rage and win the League Championship trophy on home ice. After defeating them in the regular season and ousting them from provincials, the Mohawks were probably quite full of joy to defeat the Rage!
Part 2
The Rage travelled to Lanigan on March 7th for game one of the two game/total point northern finals of Provincial "C" play. I did not go, but according to my "sources" the game was a "gong show"! Not nearly enough penalties were called and it got very out of control. A (healthy?) rivalry was born, so-to-speak, when Lanigan came back for game two in Paradise Hill on March 14th with a narrow 2-1 lead up on the Rage. The Lanigan Pirates were kept off the board in the first with the only goal being by Freyman, assist to Kuypers. Series now back at a tie...In the second, Freyman scored again, assist to Laclare and Pollard, and the Pirates battled back with one five minutes later. The game was well called and the ref was not taking any "crap", Lanigan suffered because of this, taking 8 penalties and 1 game misconduct in the first, against the Rage's 5 penalties. Things would only get more heated in the last part of the second period. With 5 min left Hougham scored, assist to Young, and the Rage was up 3-1. The penalties kept coming for the Pirates as cool heads did NOT prevail.  They took a total of 6 penalties in the second, including slashing, roughing, cross checking, bench minors, and another game misconduct. The Rage would score once more in the dying seconds of the period, Macnab from Kuypers and Freyman. 4-1 after two, and the wind knocked out of the Pirates sails. The Rage opened it up in the 3rd, trying to keep their heads in the game and just play hockey while the Pirates continued their rampage. The Rage would score three more unanswered, Pollard (Freyman); Kaltenborn (Macnab); Hougham (Young, Blaquiere) and win the game 7-1. Congrats Rage on Northern Finals win! They now have to face the Redvers Rockets for the Provincial title. The south has home-ice advantage, so game 1 was played here at the Hill on Tues. March 23rd. They then make the long, 9 hr. 800 km. trek over three days this coming weekend to play Redvers for game two on Sunday, March 28th. Redvers is located 15 miles from the Manitoba border, south east of Regina, so should be quite the trip! Check next weeks Mud for a final report!
I have been busy also getting meat scraps and ordered a 1/2 of a semi load of bait out of the states again for this upcoming spring bear season. Winter is not letting go yet as we received a few snow falls that have not added up to much and is usually melted off in one day. This is good as we do need the moisture. It is suppose to warm up again this weekend and there will be no snow left anywhere. Take care all. Hopefully my next report is with a PROVINCIAL win for the boys. Thanks. Grant.

March 15/10 - What a weekend. Garet played in Maidstone last Thursday night and they lost 4-3 in Double OT. We play them again tomorrow as it is best of 3 series. I went to Big River with Ian on Friday. They lost 8-1. On Saturday I took Garet to North Battleford so that he could skate with the Zone team that he made. On Sunday, Ian played against Big River again and lost 6-4 in which Ian had a good solid game...  BUT, Big river some how screwed up on there game sheet and I think they have been disqualified from the Final Provincial D Series and Ians team will get in. Garet played Lanigan right after Ians game. They lost the first game 2-1 and it is best of two games - total points. Long story short, we hammered them 7-1. Garet got two assists and had a great game. Lanigan was pissed. They kicked and dented one of our change room doors. Swore at the ref. Two of the players got kicked out for unsportsmanlike. What a game. What a great win. SO. Garets team plays Macklin in game 2 tomorrow night. We have to beat them or we are done as this is the league final. If we win then we play them back home the following week. This weekend Garet is skating in Regina in the Zone tournament. A lot of scouts from the WHL and other triple A midget teams will be there watching them. Who knows what will happen. Wish and pray for the best. Ian may be going to a place called Porcupine Plane to play his first game of the Provincial D final. Garets team now goes on to Play Redvers in the Provincial Finals. Redvers is about a 9 hour drive from Paradise Hill. Only about 1 hour away from the US and Manitoba border. Redvers will come to play us first on the 28th hopefully and then we will go back down there on April 2nd hopefully. Weather is beautiful. Pretty much all of the snow is gone. Calving is going great for those that are doing that. Some bears have been reported being seen already... That is crazy. I am working hard at booking hunters and will be off for a load of meat scraps tomorrow. Good night all. Grant

March 10/10  - Well the rest of the coyote hunt was not that great. But I did have a great time with Chad and Clay. They are awesome friends and I look forward to the next time we can all get together. I took them down to Edmonton on Sunday the 28th of February. We did not hunt on Saturday as it was to windy. We did try a couple of stands that Sunday morning, but nothing. We came home and watched the US vs Canada Olympic Gold medal Game. YEAH CANADA. What a game. I had my shoes on and had to get out the door to get Garet to his Provincial hockey game in Maidstone and I could not beleive when the US scores with 24 seconds left to tie it up in the 3rd. What a bummer. I found a radio station that had the game on it and started to listen to it. About 1/2 way to Maidstone Canada SCORES.... BY Sid the Kid Crosby. What a perfect ending. Sorry to all my US buds, but you will have to wait 4 more years for another chance. Like they say Hockey - Its Canada's game. Garet won that night also. Knocking out Macklin in that provincial series. We headed down to Lanigan on Sunday, March 7th and even though we out played and out shot them we still lost 2-1. Lanigan will be coming to Paradise Hill on Sunday March 14th. We have to beat them by two goals and I really think the boys can do it. If we get by Lanigan, we will  move onto the Provincial final from a team way down in southern Saskatchewan. Garets team is also in the league final against Macklin. We play them tomorrow night. They are a tough team, but we have beatem them 5 times this year. Still, when it comes to playoffs everyone steps it up a notch. The boys will have to be on there best to beat them. Ian is also still in Provincial hockey. His pool was way smaller than Garets. They play Big River 2 times this upcoming weekend. So lots of hockey still. Garet also goes to North Battleford on Saturday to skate with the Zone camp team that he made awhile back and then next weekend (18-21) we are off to Regina were he will play and be watched by WHL scouts from down there. Pretty exciting to say the least. All the snow is just about gone already. Very, very mild for this time of the year. The whole winter has been mild. Great for the Whitetail deer. It is although, snowing lightly out right now, but no accumulation is being seen yet. We need the moisture, so a little snow is definetly welcome. I got our new brochures. Email me your address if you would like some to pass around. I need bookings bad. Slowest I have ever seen it... EVER. Thanks everyone. Talk to you later. Grant.

Feb.27/10 - Hello again. Yes, I know it has been awhile since I have been on there. Chad and Clay Belding arrived Monday in Edmonton. My buddy Dean Cunningham and I went to pick them up. It was great seeing them again. They are like brothers and we have a great time together. They came up to video me shooting coyotes for them and Chads TV show the Fowl Life. Well the first stand Tuesday Morning a coyote came in on us hard and and and I MISSED!!!! I know!!!!! I was pretty upset with myself. My HOWA 243 had been in my gun case since last November and I had not shot it at all before they arrived. So back to the farm we go to sight it in. 4 shots and I grouped an inch on the bulleye. The gun was good. It was the shooter. We never got another chance that day. Wednesday we were back at it hard and had a coyote come in and I did not miss that time. We ended up getting two that day. It is so awesome calling them in. Thursday we hunted hard all day. We took the Ranger out and headed down to the North Saskatchewan River. Seen a lot of awesome country. Lots of deer. Did see about 7 coyotes, but none came in to us calling. I should not say that. One did but I just got a glimpse at the bugger and he did not come all the way in. We worked hard on it again all day yesterday. Had another come through the bush but would not finish. Today it is a little windy, so we are just chilling. There are a ton of coyotes around. But they are not coming to the calls. Saskatchewan has put out a bounty and is paying $20.00 per coyote. They say there are 22 000 already brought in. Still, that is a drop in the bucket with the coyotes that are around. I think they got the 22 000 dumb ones and the rest are on to us. We will hunt hard again tomorrow and then I have to take the boys back to Edmonton, tomorrow night after Garets hockey game. The boys are still doing awesome in hockey. Ians team won there first round of provincials and know will play Big River in the Northern Final. Garets team won there first round of playoffs and know get a buy to the finals. Garets team also won there first Provincial game vs Macklin last Tuesday night 4-3. They play them again tomorrow night in Maidstone. If we tie them or win they also move to the Northern Finals in that division. That is about it for know. I will be back hard at work next week working on bookings ect. Wish us luck hunting coyotes and for the boys hockey. Take care all! G UNIT...

Feb 13/10 - Hi, well I am back on the old computer to straighten things out on here. I need to get that Mac so it will work like this one does when I am on here. I dont know why it doesnt, but I will get to the bottom of it. I am enjoying the Mac. I think once I get everything off this computer and switched over and working like I want it to I am going to really like it. I have heard only good things from people that own them, most saying they did not like them for the first month, till they got used to them and then they loved them. Garet got selected last weekend for the Zone 7 camp. He will compete in a tournament in Regina at the end of March. There are 8 zones throughout the province and he will compete with his team against the rest. WHL scouts will be there, so I hope he does well. It could open some doors for him for the future if he wants to keep going with it, which he does. Ian has been practising. He is finished in his league and they have a provincial run left. His first game for that is next weekend. His team is also enrolled in some tournaments so he still has some hockey left for the season. Garet's team placed 1st in his league. He plays his second round of Provincials today against Beardys. We play at 3;00 PM in Paradise Hill today and then we jump on a bus tomorrow and head back to Beardys. If we beat them we go to the next round and play Macklin. Macklin is in the league that Garet team is in. We have beat them 3 times throughout regular league play, but they are always a handful. We wont worry about them until we get through Beardys. Then Garets League playoffs will also start next week. So, we are busy. I cut wood yesterday for a few hours and when the boys came home they helped me finish that job and then we went through the shop and gave it a thorough cleaning. Mopped the floors and cleaned up pretty nice. I love a clean shop as most of you know. No fishing last week. Spent most of the time in my office. Getting things switched from this PC to the Mac takes some time and I booked some hunts to. Made a couple of trips to Lloyd with Garet to a chiropractor as his back was out bit. He is feeling good though. He did have a bad cold and I can still hear him coughing yet, but he says he feels great so I hope he has a good game today. I got his cold on about Wednesday. I will survive... Well I have to get a few more things ready for this game. Bear hunts are booking nicely. Call me. It is going to be a fun exciting big bear killing season. And also Pike.... beware. Take care all! Grant.

A sweet grandmother telephoned St. Joseph 's
Hospital. She timidly asked,

"Is it possible to speak to someone who can tell
me how a patient is doing?"

The operator said, "I'll be glad to help,
dear.

What's the name and room number of the
patient?"

The grandmother, in her weak, tremulous voice,
said "Norma Findlay,

Room 302."

The operator replied, "Let me put you on
hold while I check with the nurse's station for that room."

After a few minutes the operator returned to the
phone and said, "I have good news. Her nurse just told me that Norma is
doing well.

Her blood pressure is fine; her blood work just came back normal and her
physician, Dr. Cohen, has scheduled her to be discharged tomorrow.."

The grandmother said "Thank you. That's wonderful. I was so worried.

God bless you for the good news."

The operator replied, "You're more than
welcome. Is Norma your daughter?"

The grandmother said, "No, I'm Norma Findlay in Room 302.. No one tells me

shit."

Feb.07/10 - Back at home from another weekend of hockey. Ian had the weekend off and I think he enjoyed staying at home and doing some skidooing and shop floor cleaning. Garet and I headed to North Battleford for the weekend. He went there to try out for the Zone 7 sask first choice camp. If he gets selected he will go to a tournament in Regina in March sometime. He looked good and I hope he gets the call tomorrow night. If he does not... Life will go on. There were about 60-70 kids there this weekend. So it is a lot of kids to look at in just 2 days. But to me he looked good, so we will see. I went with a friend of mine Ron and his son Bryce who also tried out. We had a good time. Friday night we hit the casino. We did not to very well that night. On Saturday we watched hockey all day. The boys were tired at the end. Ron and I found a place to watch the UFC fights. They were great. Randy Couture dominated over Mark Coleman and the Nate the great fight was awesome. We then went back to the casino and I won back the money I had lost the night before. It was a fun weekend, but it was great to get home to Shelly and Ian. This week I will be busy in my office booking hunts. Garet has a league game tomorrow night in Lloydminster. This is the 2nd last game in the league. Then next weekend he has a provincial go with a team called Beardys. They are about 3 hours to the East of us. Hopefully they do well. Ian has some time off as he is done with league play. His team unfortanetly did not make the playoffs, but they do have a provincial round and I hope they do well. Ians team has also signed up for a couple of tournaments so he will have lots of hockey left yet also. I am just watching a documentary of Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkyn. Lots of hype for the upcoming olympics in the hockey end of things. I am excited to watch it. Well I better run. Take care and we will talk to you all again soon. Good night. Grant.

Feb.04/10 - Well. I have purchased a Apple computer and things are a little different. So I am going to keep this one short in hoping that it will post. Cause things look a lot different. I am off to Battleford with Garet for the weekend. I hope he does well. Ian has the weekend off and I am sure he will enjoy that and probably do some skidooing. Later... G.

A sweet grandmother telephoned St. Joseph 's Hospital. She timidly asked, "Is it possible to speak to someone who can tell me how a patient is doing?" The operator said, "I'll be glad to help, dear. What's the name and room number of the patient?" The grandmother, in her weak, tremulous voice, said "Norma Findlay, Room 302." The operator replied, "Let me put you on hold while I check with the nurse's station for that room." After a few minutes the operator returned to the phone and said, "I have good news. Her nurse just told me that Norma is doing well. Her blood pressure is fine; her blood work just came back normal and her physician, Dr. Cohen, has scheduled her to be discharged tomorrow.." The grandmother said "Thank you. That's wonderful. I was so worried.God bless you for the good news." The operator replied, "You're more than welcome. Is Norma your daughter?" The grandmother said, "No, I'm Norma Findlay in Room 302.. No one tells me shit." TRUE STORY just in lloyd with garet looking at new computers...nice

Feb.02/10 - Ground the hog day. Well I heard he seen his shadow and I heard he did not???? What the heck... I spent most of the day in my skid steer plowing the little bit of snow that we received the past two days. There was not much, but enough to warrant a little plowing. Basically the first time I have plowed all winter. The deer are loving it. Paradise Hill Senior Hawks hammered Walburg last night 7-2. Ian had practise last night and Garet has practise tonight. Helboe and Tic came over after the game last night for a little visit. Well not much else new. Pretty nice day out there. Not sure what tomorrow will bring. More office and shop time probably. Outfitter meeting are being planned for this month, so I will be busy with that and also Managing Garets hockey team with Provincials and Playoffs coming up. Lots to keep me busy. Later folks.

Feb.01/10 - Good bye January. It was a great month. Warmer than usual and barely no snow, making it very easy on the whitetail. We are getting some snow as I write this today, but not a lot to add up to much. Ian will be able to skidoo in some new places now. Well, I went up to Green Lake last week for a night to check up on things. I have not been there since hunting season finished up. Things looked good and Norm had things neat and tidy and warm as usual. Some friends came up with me and we headed up to Beatty lake to give the splake a try. We caught 16 of them with 5 of us fishing. Lots for a great meal and a couple to put in the smoker. I love catching them damn splakes. Came back home Friday and hung out in the shop with some friends. Garet was in Wilkie for a provincial game that we had a 5 goal lead on and we beat them 5-0. So we are done with them and now we play a team from a town called Beardys. They are undefeated in there league, but I do not think it is as tough of a league as we play in. I feel quite confident if the boys come out firing they will do well against them. We were suppose to have another league game this week, but they cancelled as there goalie broke his foot.... Ian had two games this weekend also and he lost the first one and won the second game yesterday. It was a good game and Ian is playing well. His team will not make the play off round, but they still have a kick at Provincial D. I hope they do well with that. Garet has a camp next weekend for 95 year born boys only. If he makes the team, he will go to a camp in March were there will be a lot of scouts. I hope he does well. I have spent the morning in the office and getting tired of sitting in here. Booking are going well. Better than last year at this time. So that is good to see. I am outta here. Take care all. Talk to you later. I am going to a senior hawks game tonight vs the neighboring town St.Walburg. Should be a barn burner. I have to work in the kitchen during the intermissions. Stop by for a coffee. lol. TTYL... G

Jan.23/10 - Garets team beat Cold Lake last night 11-2. Quite a rough game. One fellow went after Garet but Garet was smart enough to step back and take a couple of pokes as we had a Provincial game today and he did not need to be kicked out for that. I am proud of him for that. We played Wilkie today in our first round of Provincials. They won 6-1 so they have a 5 goal lead going back to Wilkie next weekend as Provincials are best of 2 games total score. They need to win one more league game to secure 1st place. Hopefully they will do that tomorrow vs Kitscoty, who does have a tough team and is third in the standing. Ian plays in Hillmond tomorrow also. I booked up some more hunts this morning and I did a little work on my fishing shack when I got home tonight. Might sit down with the family and watch a movie this evening. Weather is still mild temps for Jan and it tried to snow a bit, but only a skiff. Deer are loving it. I am going to share this email that I received  with you all. Take care and have a great Sunday.

This one will touch
your
heart.

WOW!!!!!

A
TEENAGER'S VIEW
OF HEAVEN

17-year-old Brian Moore had only a
short time to write something for a class.
The subject was what
Heaven was like. "I wowed 'em,"
he later told his father, Bruce.
"It's a killer. It's the bomb.
It's the best thing I ever wrote.."
It also was the last.

Brian Moore died May 27, 1997, the day after
Memorial Day. He was
driving home from a friend's house when
his car went off Bulen
Pierce Road in Pickaway County and struck a
utility pole. He
emerged from the wreck unharmed but stepped
on a downed power line
and was electrocuted..

The Moores
framed a copy of Brian's essay and hung
it among the family
portraits in the living room. "I think
God used him to make a
point. I think we were meant to find it and
make something out of
it," Mrs. Moore said of the essay. She
and her husband want to
share their son's vision of life after
death. "I'm happy for
Brian. I know he's in heaven. I know
I'll see
him."

Brian's Essay: The Room...

In that place between
wakefulness and dreams, I found myself in the
room. There were no
distinguishing features except for the one
wall covered with small
index card files. They were like the ones in
libraries that list
titles by author or subject in alphabetical
order. But these
files, which stretched from floor to ceiling
and seemingly endless
in either direction, had very different
headings. As I drew near
the wall of files, the first to catch my
attention was one that
read "Girls I have liked." I opened
it and began flipping through
the cards.. I quickly shut it, shocked to
realize that I
recognized the names written on each one. And
then without being
told, I knew exactly where I
was.

This
lifeless room with its small files was a
crude catalog system for
my life. Here were written the actions of my
every moment, big and
small, in a detail my memory couldn't
match. A sense of wonder and
curiosity, coupled with horror, stirred
within me as I began
randomly opening files and exploring their
content.. Some brought
joy and sweet memories; others a sense of
shame and regret so
intense that I would look over my shoulder to
see if anyone was
watching.

A file named "Friends" was
next to one marked "Friends I have
betrayed." The titles ranged
from the mundane to the outright weird
"Books I Have Read," "Lies
I Have Told," "Comfort I have
Given," "Jokes I Have Laughed at ."
Some were almost hilarious in their
exactness: "Things I've yelled
at my brothers." Others I couldn't
laugh at: "Things I Have Done
in My Anger", "Things I Have
Muttered Under My Breath at My
Parents.." I never ceased to be
surprised by the
contents.

Often there were many more
cards than I expected. Sometimes fewer than I
hoped. I was
overwhelmed by the sheer volume of the life I
had lived. Could it
be possible that I had the time in my years
to fill each of these
thousands or even millions of cards? But each
card confirmed this
truth. Each was written in my own
handwriting. Each signed with my
signature.

When I pulled out the
file marked "TV Shows I have
watched", I realized the files grew
to contain their contents. The cards were
packed tightly and yet
after two or three yards, I hadn't found
the end of the file. I
shut it, shamed, not so much by the quality
of shows but more by
the vast time I knew that file
represented.

When I came to a file
marked "Lustful Thoughts," I felt a
chill run through my body. I
pulled the file out only an inch, not willing
to test its size and
drew out a card. I shuddered at its detailed
content.

I felt sick to think that
such a moment had been recorded. An almost
animal rage broke on
me. One thought dominated my mind: No one
must ever see these
cards! No one must ever see this room! I have
to destroy them!" In
insane frenzy I yanked the file out. Its size
didn't matter now. I
had to empty it and burn the cards. But as I
took it at one end
and began pounding it on the floor, I could
not dislodge a single
card. I became desperate and pulled out a
card, only to find it as
strong as steel when I tried to tear
it.

Defeated and utterly helpless, I
returned the file to its slot. Leaning my
forehead against the
wall, I let out a long, self-pitying
sigh.

And then I saw it... The title
bore "People I Have Shared the Gospel
with." The handle was
brighter than those around it, seemed newer,
almost unused. I
pulled on its handle and a small box not more
than three inches
long fell into my hands. I could count the
cards it contained on
one hand.

And then the tears came. I
began to weep. Sobs so deep that they hurt.
They started in my
stomach and shook through me. I fell on my
knees and cried. I
cried out of shame, from the overwhelming
shame of it all. The
rows of file shelves swirled in my
tear-filled eyes. No one must
ever, ever know of this room. I must lock it
up and hide the key.
But then as I pushed away the tears, I saw
Him.

No, please not Him. Not here.
Oh, anyone but Jesus. I watched helplessly as
He began to open the
files and read the cards. I couldn't bear
to watch His response.
And in the moments I could bring myself to
look at His face, I saw
a sorrow deeper than my own.

He
seemed to intuitively go to the worst boxes.
Why did He have to
read every one? Finally He turned and looked
at me from across the
room. He looked at me with pity in His eyes.
But this was a pity
that didn't anger me. I dropped my head,
covered my face with my
hands and began to cry again. He walked over
and put His arm
around me.. He could have said so many
things. But He didn't say a
word. He just cried with me.

Then He
got up and walked back to the wall of files.
Starting at one end
of the room, He took out a file and, one by
one, began to sign His
name over mine on each card. "No!"
I shouted rushing to Him. All I
could find to say was "No, no," as
I pulled the card from Him. His
name shouldn't be on these cards. But
there it was, written in red
so rich, so dark, and so alive. The name of
Jesus covered mine. It
was written with His blood. He gently took
the card back. He
smiled a sad smile and began to sign the
cards. I don't think I'll
ever understand how He did it so quickly, but
the next instant it
seemed I heard Him close the last file and
walk back to my
side.

He placed His hand on my
shoulder and said, "It is
finished." I stood up, and He led me out
of the room. There was no lock on its door.
There were still cards
to be
written.

"I can do all things through Christ who
strengthens me."-Phil.
4:13 "For God so loved the world that He
gave His only son, that
whoever believes in Him shall not perish but
have eternal life."
If you feel the same way forward it so the
love of Jesus will
touch their lives also. My "People I
shared the gospel with" file
just got bigger, how about yours?

Jan.22/10 - I am back. Sore and tired, but all good. Had a good couple of days riding with my brother and buddy Dean C. I got up early this morning and answered a bunch of emails and started working on a new brochure. I have to go clean the ashes out of my wood boiler this morning and then run my truck and trailer to the car wash to get all the salt off them. Garet had one game while I was gone and they won 4-2. They play tonight again and then a provincial game tomorrow and another league game on Sunday. Ian only has the one game on Sunday this weekend. I rode a yamaha turbo. The thing puts out over 400 hp. It is ridiculous, but amazing and fun to ride. Dont worry I am happy with my 160 hp XP. Well I better get outside. I had a good amount of inquiries while I was gone. Bookings seem to be going okay. I will work hard on them in the upcoming weeks. Have a great weekend everyone. Later. G

Jan.18/10 - Sorry. I will be away from Monday Jan.18th - Thursday Jan.22. I will be able to check my emails daily. I will be back in the office Friday Jan.23rd. Thanks. Well the big busy hockey week is all over. Ian did great this weekend with him and his team winning the B-final handly today at the tournament that they competed in this past weekend in a town called Dewberry. Garet won the C-Final. A bit of a disapointment for the team. But you will have those days when things dont click and the past couple of days where just that. But they kicked a teams ass from Saskatoon today 10-2. Garets team will start playing there Provincial Playoff round next weekend already. They are in the Provincial C catergorie and the C means the population of the communitys that the kids are coming out of. It is a big Catergorie and there will be a lot of good teams. I hope they do well. Ians team is also in the Provincial run in the D Categorie. Provincials are totally different to there league play. In Mid February they will start there league playoffs also. So still a lot of hockey coming up.  I hope they do well in both. Brother Dean and I and other buddy are heading to Valemount for a quick snowmobiling trip. I will be back Thursday. Talk to you all then and have a great week. Grant

Jan.16/10 - My oldest boy Garet turned 15 yesterday. Happy Birthday son. I picked him up from school and went straight to get his learners license. He drove us to Lloyd where he had a hockey game. They lost there first game from a winning streak of 23. It was in a tournament but we made it a league game also vs Wainwright as they were the first team we were to meet in this tournament and we had to play them one more time in the league so we killed two birds with one stone. It seemed like a slow game and the boys lost 3-1. Garet got there and WE forgot his pants and can so off to the store I go. I guess I will call that his birthday present. hahahahhh.. After the game a few of his friends and mine went for supper and then they went to a movies and then home. I went and hung out at my buddy Dean Cunninghams for a bit and got caught up with him. He wants to go sledding next week back to Valemount, so I am going to see if I can put something together there and go for a couple of days. Ian played last night also and WON. His team is really starting to pick it up. They won 7-5 and I am happy for them. He is in Hillmond and back to Dewberry today so he will be busy. Garet and I are back off to Lloyd to play a Saskatoon team and then we play a team from Yellowknife this evening. So another full day of hockey. I did go ice fishing one day last week with my neighbor Wayne Maier. We did awesome and caught our limit of nice size Splake. They are a trout crossed fish. I smoked up my share and I am pretty proud of the job that I did. I thought they tasted awesomme. Well I better run. I have been on my bike a couple of times last week and busy around the yard and feeling good. Take care all. Later.

Jan.11/10 - The boys had a great weekend of hockey. Garet play Lac La Biche the 2nd place team in his league. The came out very strong and we were down 1-0 after the 1st period. Then our boys woke up... FINALLY and they scored 5 goals in the 2nd period makind it 5-1. It was a good third period played well by both teams and the final score was 6-2. Ian was in Mallaig. Shelly and I made it just in time to get to the start of his game from Garets. We were lucky because the ref was late. It was also a great exciting game, but the lost 7-4. We then went with Ians team and spent the night in Bonnyville. Relaxed and had some fun. Got reported to the cops that we were making to much noise which was bullshit. But what ever we still had a good time. Then it was off back to Mallaig the next day to play them again with Ians team. Mallaig is 2nd in the standings and Ians team is 8th... Dead last. Well the boys played awesome and came out with a 5-4 win. A very exciting game. We got back home late Sunday evening and everyone was tired. I spent today starting off in my office this morning and then I went out and loaded up the wood boiler. Garet called with a upset stomach so I headed in to get him and picked up some Milk and some salt and brown sugar so that I could smoke some fish. Then I worked out on my bike for 65 minutes. Went hard and did a few sit up and push ups also. Came in had fresh Walleye for supper and then off to take Ian to his hockey practise. Then I came back home and have been working in my office ever since then. But know I have to go back to town to get Ian. Busy but a great day. Take care all. Grant.

Jan.07/10 - I am back and hard at it. Shellys cousins wedding was very nice. We did not know a lot of people there and we were all in bed pretty early. The next day Brandon, Dean, Joe and Ricky picked me up in Edmonton and we were off to Valemount, BC. Had a good fun drive with the boys and it was nice to see the beautiful mountains again. We rode for 3 days with awesome snow and sun. It was one of the best trips I have been on there for a long time. I want to go back and I know forsure it will be hard for me to get out of the door with out my youngest son Ian. Garet and Shelly were sick when I was gone with a bad flu. Garet missed his game last week vs Mannville. His team still pulled off a win 4-3 with out him. Ian had two games and won 1 and lost 1 so that was good also. I spent the day yesterday cleaning up from the trip and spent some time in the office. We did not get home till late Tuesday night and I was tired and sore from the trip yesterday but feel really good today. We had to drop off our Aussie buddy Rick off at the Edmonton airport and he is still flying around somewhere trying to get back home. We sure enjoyed his company up here and I hope he comes back sooner than later. He is like a brother. Thanks for all the help Rick. He can even ride a skidoo pretty good. Not bad for a Poofy Aussie.. hahaha. The US vs Canada Junior Gold Medal game was on when we got to Edmonton, so we pitted in at the Nisku to take that in. We had a good time watching the game and the US won it in overtime. Both teams played very well and it was a great game to watch. I just finished cleaning out the ashes out of the wood boiler outside. Still no snow to speak of around these parts. Ian is itching to ride his skidoo and he has the ditches where the snow has blown in good pounded out already. We have a full weekend of hockey with both boys this weekend. Garet plays up in Lac la biche which is a 3 hour drive from home. Ian is also playing up in that area. Ian has a double header up there this weekend, so we are going to stay in Bonnyville Sat night and catch Ians second game on Sunday. Garet just has the one game this weekend and it should be a good one as Lac La Biche is 2nd in that league behind Garets team. Well I have lots of phone calls and emails to catch up on. I hope everyone had a great  New Years Party and I hope this year brings everyone the best. Later all.

Grant.

Dec.29/09 - Went to Moms for supper last night and got spend one more last evening with my sister and Skip. The kids all went to the movies last night so they had fun. I am heading towards Saskatoon today to pick up a few ice fishing shacks. They are 5 man big plastic ones and they work awesome. I had one, but long story short, Brandon bought it from me after it flew out of the back of his truck last winter when he was coming to join me and my buddy Stu up at Beatty lake. I am picking up three, so I will haul a trailer down to load them onto. Will be a good load as they are about 8 foot long. So I will be on my cell today if you need to get a hold of me. Then, tomorrow, Shelly and the boys and I are off to Edmonton. Shelly's cousin is getting married New Years Eve. On New Years Day, some of my friends will be picking me up in Edmonton and we will carry on to Valemount for a few days of sledding. Brother Dean and Rick will be there to. I am excited as it has been over 2 years since I have been skidooing in the Mountains. So, basically, I will be away till about Jan.05. Then back in the office, hard on the bike and cutting wood. Here is another great email I just received from a good friend of mine Paul who hunted with Buck Paradise up at Green Lake a couple of years ago. Thanks Paul and I will talk to you all again when I get back. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!

Good Morning Grant,

I hope you had a great Christmas and a safe and healthy New Year.

Looking forward to connecting again on a nice Canadian whitetail. Hopefully the weather will get cold for the season and get those big ones moving. This year your camps did not produce as many big racks as we've seen before. I do agree with you that the big bucks hunkered down during the day to keep cool. There should be plenty of monsters (maybe even more than usual) to go around next fall as they will just be a year older and bigger. Let's hope for a mild winter and good fawn crop.

Please send me a contract for the 3rd week at Green Lake for next fall. (Nov 15-20). I do have a couple of guys really interested in going but due to the economy, they cannot commit at this time. I will try and entice them with your booking special you have posted on the website. However, that should not hold me up. I'll get a check out right away.

I can't begin to tell you what a great experience I had in 2008. Muff took real good care of me and was a lot of fun to be around. He put me in a spot where I scored on a 300lb+ 10pt (140) on the first day and was the biggest deer I've ever seen and shot. Meeting Mike Hanback then getting my 15 seconds of camera time on his new show was the icing on the cake. If you recall, you stuck me in a room with Matt Hughes and his buddy Brett. I had no clue who he was and didn't figure it out until Muff mentioned something about getting Matt's autograph about 4 days into the week. (I think I had their names mixed up for the first few days!) I had seem UFC only a little bit. I've become a UFC junkie since! Matt was such a gentleman and is a great embassador for that sport. I also met many great guys who I still keep in touch with. My trip to Green Lake was awesome on so many levels. I guess it's down hill from here! :)

I met up with several hunters last year on the return trip home that either went to Shockey's camps or other camps in the general area. They were all hanging their heads with disapointment. They either didn't see many deer, had poor accomodations, had poor quality guides or a combination of these.  That just confirmed what type of operation you run. Every hunter saw many deer and almost all had an opportunity to shoot a mature buck. You can't ask for more than that.

Keep up the good work Grant and I look forward to your blog updates. I'm counting the days until next fall.

Best Regards,

Paul Milata

Hey Grant, I made it home at 12:15 am on Friday night. Thanks again for everything. Thanks to the hard work of Dean Kuypers, Brandon Schreiber, and Cody Dyck everything came together for me to get the best Buck of my life. The beast scored at 167 inches with a ton of mass. Buck Paradise Outfitters is a class operation for which you should be proud. I was well taken care of from the moment I arrived until I departed. Give those boys up at the Goodsoil camp a pat on the back they really know their business. This makes the 4th Trophy Buck and 2 nice Bears I have taken with Buck Paradise. As you know I have already booked with you for next year and I am already counting the days until I can come back to the land of the Giants. Well thanks again for making my dream come true. I will see you guys next fall. Take care.

Dec.25/09 -  Merry Christmas Everyone. I am up early today as I went to bed early last night for once. I have some lake trout in a salt brine that I am going to go get on the smoker today. Before that I will load up the wood boiler. Then I might ride the bike after I get the fish going. Then by that time the boys should be up and we can open up some presents. I hope everyone has a great day with family and friends. I am very blessed to have so many of them. Thank you all! Here is a great letter that I received yesterday from a very good close friend Philip Quick. Thank you Philip. Have a great day everyone. Grant

Dear Grant,

I would like to wish you, your family and staff at Buck Paradise a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I would also like to thank you for my early Christmas present BP gave to me on Dec 6/2009 at precisely 12:30pm . the gift is one I have wanted for most of  my entire  life a big ole Giant White tail Deer and I know of no other place you can go in North America and have a fair chase hunt than the heart of Saskatchewan, Canada that will give a hunter a true opportunity at a book Deer over a 6 day hunt, that is why I come to Buck Paradise every year for the last 5 years.

Its Monday morning Nov 29th 2009  our first day of hunting in Paradise, I’m excited to be back at BP for another year counting my blessing and thinking how lucky I am to be able to come to this place and hunt, to see Grant and the guides Kevin, Cory, Jason, and Jeremy  is always good.  Well the first day out went uneventful 2 small bucks  and 4 doe and I knew the weather was not cooperating, 32 degrees with no snow at the end of November, this is not the Canada I have come to know from years past. Tue, Wed, and Thursday were much like Monday slow activity . Now my guide Kevin Wenger is going to work his tail off to put me on the biggest deer he can so on Friday we move to another location and the weather is starting to change for the better, temps dropping its snowing and the deer are starting to move. See 12 deer Fri, another 15  on Sat, I am thinking my hunts over and Kevin informs me the season ends on Monday and if I would like to stay and hunt the last 2 days I was more than welcome to. Now that is another reason I come to this place, Kevin did not have to extend this invitation for me to stay, but he wanted to see me get a deer just as much as I wanted to get one to. Well after talking deer strategy  we made the decision to move back to the place we started the week at, and boy am I glad we did.

Its Sunday morning Dec 6th, the wind and snow have been together now for 3 long days and nites and I am back at the spot I started my hunt at Mon 32 degrees, but now I have 12” of snow and minus 28 degree F.   I’m thinking man is this a great day for hunting or what? At about 10:30am the snow stops the winds calm and the clouds part, looking across the meadow the sun hits the snow on the trees and ground and I think I wish everyone back home in GA could see this. At 12:30 on the nose, the man, the giant, the bruiser, the gagger,  or what I would like to describe as the biggest white tail buck I have ever seen in my whole life steps out at forty yards, what an amazing animal, beautiful tall tines, long beams and chocolate horns. THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR 40 YEARS and now he’s in front of me a true buck of a life time. He walks slow but sure and has a gate about him that says I am the king of all deer at this place and he who dares to challenge me will depart head held low. He is now at 100 yards and broad side, I take one last look before my sight is placed in the crosshairs just behind the shoulder, squeeze and the sound of the shot assures me of a direct hit. I am out of the blind and walk to see what is now a dream come true.

I was introduce to hunting at the age of 9 years by Ed Herrin from Thomaston, Ga. Now Ed had a true love for the outdoors and his wife use to say “Ed I believe you spend more time outside than you do inside” and Ed would reply “ yep that’s cause I can learn more from them woods about life than anybody else  can teach me”. Now Ed was a hard and dedicated hunter but you have to understand this is in 1969 thru the 70’s and when you hunt in GA it’s for food not horns and we didn’t  have all the techno gadgets, the scent eliminators , scent attractants , pop up blinds, and climbers, etc like my son Noah thinks have been around forever. We would scout the deer woods find good sign and would find the nearest tree with the biggest limbs on it drive a few spikes in the tree climb it sit on a limb and hunt for 6hrs in the morning  go to lunch and back at it by 1:30 and hunt till dark, now I tell ya that’s a long day for child but that’s the way Ed hunted but every time he was hunting I was with him every chance I could. Now as the years past, I grew to have such a passion for white tail deer hunting and to lay claim to one of those  big horned monsters.  Now to the true dedicated hunter out there, that is from the southeastern part of the states knows you can hunt hard, hunt often and hunt your whole life and never see a book deer. I have taken some 130’s thru 140 class deer but nothing like 180 class I took at your place this year.

Merry Christmas Grant, and again thank you for my early present.

Dec.23/09 - Thanks Melissa, I like it when you write on here. Please feel free to do so anytime. Merry Christmas to you and Brandon also. And Merry Christmas to everyone and the best to you all in the New Year. Well, I have been pretty busy since the season has finished. The weekends are loaded with Garet and Ians hockey. Shelly and I took a few days last week and took off. It was nice to get away. We left on a Tuesday and were back Friday in time for Garets hockey game. Garet and his team are doing very well. They are 21-1-1 so far this season combining tournament, league and exhibition games. The last few were tougher though and this is a good thing for them. The beat out Manville 6-3 last Friday. They beat Wainwright 4-2 on Saturday and on Sunday they had a tough hard fought game vs Cold Lake and came out on top 3-2. They were suppose to play this Sunday but that has been cancelled, but I am looking for a game for them this Sunday  maybe vs a Battleford A team. Ian and his team on the other hand have been having a battle. They have won 1 game and tied 1 game. But hopefully they keep working hard and make the playoffs. Lenora and Skip, Joelene and Ty are coming down to Moms for Christmas. Shelly and the boys and  I are staying close to home which is nice. I hope to catch up on some office work and maybe even get out and wet a line ice fishing. After the last time I wrote on here which was Dec.14th I went outside to load the wood boiler. I had a huge log and I rifled it in as hard as I could and there was a root on the end of that big log which handly grabbed my left thumb as it pummelled into the boiler smashing my thumb into the door. OUCH. I slowly took of my mit to a bloody thumb, but I was happy to see it was still attached. I headed into the house and Shelly looked at it and sent me to the hospital for stiches. I got 3 of them. It is healing quite nicely. The stiches are out a week ago and I can bend it ever so slighty a little more each day. Could have been worse. Bookings are going good for this early in the year and I am going to get really busy here after Christmas to try my best to get things booked up as early as possible for next year. Well I have to finish my deer records now. That should have been done a while ago but I never have been able to get around to it yet. I was in Lloyd Christmas shopping yesterday. I started and finished all in one day. YEA. Ian is still feeding deer out behind the house and has 2 decent bucks on there feeding. I hope he gets some more coming in and we find a bunch of sheds. I might go sledding to the mountains Jan.01. I am looking forward to that as I hear the snow is awesome. There is still not much around here. Ian is chomping at the bit so that he can get his machine out. He did go out today as we got about 3 inches here in the last couple of days so I just saw him get it out of the shop to go for  a little spin. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! Bless you all and I hope to see you in 2010. GRANT KUYPERS SIGNING OUT! Oh ya..... I started riding my bike again this morning. It felt good, but the legs are a little sore. I am going to hit it hard from now on all winter.

Dec.16/09- Hello everyone!  Just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.  Brandon will be coming home from work on Christmas eve and is home till the eleventh of January.  We hope to get some coyote hunting in, and possibly sledding, if it snows some more that is.  It has been a blistering -40 here for the last week.  So driving an hour to and from work every day hasn't been too much fun!  I am really looking forward to next years White Tail season, we had lots of fun this year at Goodsoil camp and we got some great deer and also met some great people!  Well I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Take care

Melissa

Dec.14/09 - Thanks Brandon for getting on here. I appreciate it buddy. Well yes, the season is over for another year. We ended it on a high note with long time Buck Paradise Outfiitter hunter Philip Quick knocking down a giant. We had pictures of this deer coming in to his stand and he wanted to stay a couple of extra days to try to get it done. We are sure glad that he did. The buck he shot gross scored at 181 4/8 inches and will net 172 4/8 inches. Just a incredible deer for a great guy. Garet and Ian have been going hard with hockey. Garets team is doing very well. They have only lost one game in the last 15. Ians team is struggling a bit, but they pulled off there first win yesterday. Like Brandon said, it is cold out. It is suppose to warm up by the weekend which will be nice. The boys and I cut wood for a couple of hours yesterday. That wood boiler eats a lot when it is cold like this out. Barely no snow on the ground around here yet. Green Lake finally froze over last week. I am looking forward to heading up there and doing some ice fishing later on in the winter. Shelly and I are heading out for a few days out of this cold weather. We will be back on Friday. Garet plays Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Ian plays Saturday & Sunday. So I will be back in my office on Monday Dec.21st. Thanks to all again for coming up to hunt with us this past season and a Big thanks to all of my staff. We could not do it with out you and we truly appreciate all of you and your hard work and dedication to Buck Paradise Outfitters. I have some of the last deer pics to post and I am going to go do that right now. When I get back in the office I will be working hard on getting things booked for the 2010 hunt season. Interest is high and that is good to see. Take care all. Grant.

PS - I was at our annual outfitter meeting last Thursday and Friday. No real big news. It may look that there may be a possibility of Non res being able to buy a wolf tag..... AGAIN... This is just in the works. But we are hoping something is going to happen sooner that later.

Dec.12/09 - Hello all, we are getting a bit of cold weather in Saskatchewan right now but the good thing about it is there is hardly any snow. The deer still have plenty to eat and don't have to work to get food or to get around so the weather won't harm them a bit. Grant appologizes for not writing on here latley but I will vouch for him to say that he has been dang busy running his boys around to hockey and getting things wrapped up and put away after the season. Theres quite a bit of before and after work that comes along with the whitetail season but i can guarantee when Grant gets all caught up he will have something to blog on here for anyone who keeps up with where we're at and what we are doing up here. Dean and rick have everything brought in and put away over in Goodsoil and Corey, Kevin, Jason and Jeremy down in Paradise Hill are probably sitting down to enjoy a nice cold beer after getting their gear in and put away neat and tidy ready for next year. Grant, Dean and I plan to get out to the mountains to do some snowmobiling in early January so hopefully the weather cooperates and lets us do so. Rick has never done this before cause he lives in Australia so it should be fun watching him. Take care everyone have a good night.

Brandon

Dec.11/09 - Brandon here again. Well the 2009 deer season is offically over. I am back up working in B.C in the oil fields until Christmas. The weather has deffinatly cooled off after having a mild fall. Its only a few months till things start to warm up and we will be finding shed horns. We had a great year of hunting and had a lot of fun with all of our old and now new friends. We harvested great deer out of all the camps and the success rate was equally the same.  I want to thank all of the hunters that come to spend time with us up here in Saskatchewan, We work hard to give every one of you the best trip possible and hunt some of the best hunting grounds Saskatchewan has to offer. I enjoy every minute i get to spend out in the wilderness with all of you avid hunters knowing we all have the same goals of having as much fun as we can and laying some lead to a giant deer.  Bear season is just around the corner so anyone wanting to come up and get a great bear do some fishing and possibly shed horn hunting give Grant a call and he will set you up. Have a good Christmas everyone can't wait till next fall. Feel free to drop me a E-mail ( gusseroo@hotmail.com ) or give me a call  780-870-6510.

Dec.04/09 - Hello everyone. It has finally cooled off. There is also a skiff of snow. It has been a decent week of hunting. I have some hard core trophy hunters in camp and they are holding out for mr.big. Some guys are seeing deer and some other stands are slow. Full moon this week and really for Dec it is still mild for us. I was back up at Green Lake on Wednesday to get a stand out of the bush and to sit for a hour to see if I could catch a big buck coming through. But nothing. I then went up to Goodsoil that night. Hung out with Bro Dean and Brandon and Rick and there hunters for the evening. Lots of laughs and we had a fun time as usual. Then I headed back up to Green Lake on Thursday and finished cleaning up odds and ends there and then back home just in time to take Ian to his hockey practise. Garet has 4 games this weekend. I think by Sunday night he should be tired. We are in Kitscoty for a tournament (3 games) which is only 1 hour away and then we are off to Lac la Biche on Sunday (3 hour drive) to play a league game that day. Only two more days of whitetail season left. I have 3 guys coming in to shoot elk on Sunday. By Tuesday the camps will all be empty for another season. It is sad. But I will be busy as hell talking to everyone and rebooking everyone up for next season. I think if the winter keeps on as easy as it has been, we will be in for a great 2010 season. 2009 was good. A few really strong bucks and then lots of good 140 and 150 class bucks. We have 2 hunters still hunting up at Good soil. They had a very strong year this year. I still have 8 hunters hunting at Paradise Hill yet. So hopefully the deer start to move and we get a few more yet this week. A high light for me this week was seeing young Noah Quick get a really good buck. I like seeing these young guys hunting and getting excited about it all. Noahs a great kid and we hope to see him coming back to Buck Paradise for many more years. His Dad Philip brings up a great bunch of guys every year and they have all become family to us all here at Buck Paradise. Outta here for know.... G

Nov.30/09 - I am back in Paradise Hill. Came back last Friday and hung out with Bowers and Earl and some of my other hunters for a few days. Ian played hockey Friday night in Dewberry and they tied which is good. Garet played on Sunday and they beat out Kitscoty 8-2. Rough game but the boys prevailed. We are done up at Green Lake. It is a shame as I feel this is one of the better weeks to be hunting as the big boys are getting hungry after a busy rut. It is funny how the pictures of big bucks slow down through the rut. We started our first day of on the fifth week as Chris Smith of GA smoked a cooker 18 scoreable buck. Heavy, dark horned, great looking buck. It is still very warm here. It was about 32F here this morning. I am heading into town to do a few things and then I am thinking of heading back up to Green Lake to take care of a few last minute jobs and cleanup. We had a good season at Green Lake and I believe next year will be awesome as we only booked 1/2 the hunters that we usually do out of that camp, leaving a lot of great bucks to mature another year. Lots of areas basically got untouched this season. Thanks to all my staff at Green Lake for another good season. Chad, Kyle, Phane, Melvin, Reg, Sheldon, Johny worked hard all season to put there clients on some great bucks. Cindy and Janet kept the lodge looking immaculate and Christine and Theresa kept everyones bellys full. Norm was busy as always and we appreciate all he does there also. SO a big thanks to everyone. I appreciate it a lot. Well I better run, so that I can get back to Paradise Hill to help out the last week here. I have a feeling we are going to get some good bucks. Goodsoil is still rocking with 6 hunters in camp this week. They have had a great season also and  I am sure we will see some more pics from that camp of great deer this last week. Take care all. G

Nov.25/09 - Another beautiful clear blue bird day up at Green Lake. Lake is still open and it will be well into December when it freezes I think. A few more nice bucks coming in the door today and last night. I have been busy on here working. Booked a couple of hunts this morning for 2010 so that makes me happy. I also cleaned house in my office/bedroom. Stuff sure piles up and I gave away a bunch of clothes and trashed a bunch of things that I will never use again. Health Inspector was here at Green Lake yesterday. We got a big thumbs up and I would like to thank Cindy, Janet, Theresa and Christine for all of there hard work preparing great food and keeping our lodge beautifully clean. I am sitting here writing this and listening to some Willy Nelson. Great artist. I may head to Goodsoil later on today to meet the hunters that we have there this week. Brandon just went with a hunter that shot out yesterday and shot a elk up at my friends place. So that is cool. I helped the boys out in the shop last night skinning some deer and hung out for a bit. Pretty calm. Only 10 hunters at Green Lake this week. 7 left to shoot. Well back to putting a few of the pics from today and yesterday on the sight. It is good to see Brandon got his shit together and got his pics caught up on the sight. Later all!!!! Grant

Nov.24/09 - I finally made it back up to Green Lake. Still warm considering it is Nov.24. Suppose to get up over 32 F today, but it is cooling down pretty good at night. One of Johny guides just radioed in with a buck. Said he was chasing a doe, so the rut is still going strong. Been a very easy rut for the deer this year. Warm weather, no snow and a lot of food in the woods and on our bait piles. Deer are happy. We continue to get some really good bucks despite everything being in the deers favor. Green Lake is on its last week of hunting. 1/2 the hunters I usually take out of Green Lake and Beatty. This means to me that there are a lot of great bucks out there that did not get hunted this year. This means to me that there are going to be a lot of big bucks running around for the 2010 season. Good reports from our hunters that the fawn crop from last spring is strong. This means that the deer came off of a good winter last year. We also saw some stronger horn growth this year especially in our Goodsoil camp. I am already excited about next year. I have guys booking for 2010 already so I feel good about that. Paradise Hill camp was booked this year and is doing very well again. Goodsoil was only 1/2 full but compared to last year they are pulling out some awesome bucks this year. They have hunters this week and the next also. Paradise Hill will also be hunting the rest of this week and then next week. We will be finished on Dec.05. Garets hockey team had two games on the weekend. Winning both handly 6-1 and 9-1. Ian on the other hand had a tougher road to haul and his team lost both of there games but they were fairly close. They are a small team and I think they will continue to get stronger as the season goes on. Well I am going to go put some more pics on the 09 whitetail gallery from last week mostly from Green Lake. They had a great week again, downing some great mature bucks. There are still geese flying around in the area... I have never seen geese around this time of the year. That is how mild it has been here for the month of November. Here is another great email I received from one of my hunters last week. He was hunting in Paradise Hill. Note... Brandon and Dean are still hunting from the Goodsoil camp next week. They have 5 openings. Call today to still get in. They have a bunch of strong bucks on camera. It is suppose to cool down a bit next week and these bucks will start thinking food again as the rut is slowing down. Call me. 1-780-214-4638. Here is the email I received and thank you Doug for sending it. G Kuyp.

Grant,

I wanted to drop you a note to tell you how happy I was with my Hunt last week.

People are already sick of listening to Brian and I retell of our time at Paradise Hill this season.

I can’t wait to come back next year.  I will send you a deposit for the 3rd week of the 2010 Hunting Season.

You mentioned a recommendation for a Caribou Hunt somewhere in Quebec I think you said.  I’d appreciate the contact info again.

Again, I can’t say how much I enjoyed my time there last week and how excited I am about coming back next season.

Nov.20/09 - Good bucks going down, despite the warm weather. Check out the 09 Gallery. I am back in Paradise Hill but getting ready to head back to Green Lake to see everyone up there. Goodsoil has had another great week with only 1 hunter out of 7 to shoot yet and some really impressive bucks. Green Lake shot 3 dandys yesterday the best scoring out at 165 inches. Paradise Hill as always has been solid all week. Again I think if it was cooler we would be seeing more activity. I have been to Goodsoil then back to Green Lake then back to Paradise Hill then to Edmonton and then back to Paradise Hill and know I am going back to Green Lake. I think I will need new tires after the season. haha. All is good. Well I have to go put my combine away before we get snow. I think everyone is pretty much done the harvest now. Take care all. G

Nov.17/09 - I got the Ranger out of the woods. Was not easy. Blew up two of Chads back shocks on his Quad $600.00 Bills to get that fixed but what do you do???? It is all good. I will take it to Meadow Lake today and get it running. Hopefully just something simple. We fell through the muskeg a couple of times with the trailer that the Ranger was on. Heavy load... But we got it. All good. Weather is warm.... Very warm.... Deer are rutting hard.  Here is a good email my good friend Larry Hanshaw just sent me. Makes me feel pretty good about what we are all doing. Take care all. Grant.

Hey Grant, I made it home at 12:15 am on Friday night. Thanks again for everything. Thanks to the hard work of Dean Kuypers, Brandon Schreiber, and Cody Dicks everything came together for me to get the best Buck of my life. Take care.

Nov.16/09 - Read the next Blog as I am continueing on from it first before you read this part. So... Garet and I drive home and I get to see the hunters and some pretty impressive bucks. A 157 rolled into camp and another 18 point awesome buck is sitting there. Everyone is happy. UFC fights are on and I sit back with the hunters and some friends to enjoy them. Good job Randy Couture on a win.... Sunday Nov.15th. New hunters coming into camp. Garet is heading back to Wainwright to play in the A final. I get the hunters coming into Paradise Hill all settled in. Then I head to Paradise Hill with Ian to watch him play. They lose 4-1 but it was great watching Ian play. Garet won 4-1 and win the Tournament. He was happy and rolled into the shop last night where I was with a big ol trophy. So, I am thinking I am going to stay at home tonight and catch up on some sleep when my phone ringings. It is my good friend and hunter Randy Girard who was hunting up at Green Lake. He tells me to get to Green Lake as he just shot his best buck ever and he wants me to be there as they are leaving this evening... SO i get things ready, say goodbye to everyone at Paradise Hill and I am off to Green Lake. I roll into camp around 11:00. Sat around bsing with Randy and some of the new hunters that arrived today till about 2:00 AM. So much for catching up on sleep. But it is all good. Dean and Brandon have 7 guys hunting at Goodsoil today. They have some pics of some great bucks and I hope they get them. I am going to try to get some pics of last weeks bucks updated on the website and then I am going to head up north to go rescue my Ranger. Been a great, fun, lots of driving past week. I love it. Thanks to all my guides, cleaners and Shelly and the boys for all of there help. There is no way I could do it all without them... Even close. Okay. I got to get some pictures on the sight. Later all.... Grant.

Nov.16/09 - I feel like singing the song I've been everywhere man.... It has been a very past busy week and know I have to catch up on our website again. I spoke with everyone last Wednesday on here and I will do my best to retrace my steps since then. Been a crazy past week. So Wednesday night Nov.11 I headed back home. Garet had a hockey game that night, so basically I got home, grabbed him and headed to the game. They won 8-2 vs Lloydminster. Garet scored one goal and had one assist. Got home and most of the hunters from Paradise Hill were in bed, but a few where up so I visited with them out in the shop for a bit.  Thursday Nov.12 - I played catch up a bit in my office at home. My Moms new house was coming in today and I had to be in town around noon with a tractor to help pull the semi that was hauling the house up the steep hill where my Moms lots is in Paradise Hill. All went well and know Moms house is sitting on its foundation. She is very excited and it is good to see her happy. It is a very beautiful house and she deserves it. After I am done with the house it is off to run my combine for the afternoon north of Turtleford, SK. Things go well there also and I really enjoyed running it for the little that I got to. My buddy Rick who has been helping us out then came around 8:00 PM and took over for me as I wanted to go see the rest of the hunters at Paradise Hill. I got there in time for supper and got to see everyone including my guides and had a great visit with everyone. Friday Nov.13th.... Should have really stayed in bed today. Lucky Friday the 13th... So I get Garet up and we head back to Green Lake 1 1/2 hour drive one way. We get there and load up the Ranger with Johny and head into the Islands. The trail in is good for the Ranger and we get in no problem. We get to our 3rd bait and the day is going great and Garet is really enjoying the day. As we are driving into our 3rd bait I said to Johny and Garet that is would be great to find a nice pair of sheds on one of these baits. We pull in and Johny and Garet look in the grass about 20 yards from the bait and both say... What is that. Garet runs over there and pulls a deer skull out of the grass..... 20 POINTS on this dead ol Buck. I am extatic. And so is Johny and Garet. We admire this buck for awhile and I wish he would have been on one of our hunters walls but I am happy knowing that we have these awesome Genetics in our area. I will post pics of this buck soon and I am going to get a permit and get this awesome buck mounted for one of the lodges. He scores in the Mid 160s buck what a great character buck. I think he was there last year but we could not see him in the snow. So we carry on and we finish doing all of our baits. It is dark out and my Ranger which I have not used much is gettin low on gas. I am concerned. Being that it was dark even though I had my GPS I was a little mixed up on which trail I should be on. Well we were on the right trail but I doubted it and turned around. We went back a bit and turned and came to a dead end. I was backing the Ranger up when it quit... GREAT.. I thought it was out of gas. So we started to try radioing the lodge which cross country was 12 1/2 miles away and I was not sure if the radio would reach that far.... Luckily it did and I got a hold of Chad. So there Garet and Johny and I sat in the dark. We made a big fire and it was pretty peaceful and good to be hanging with Johny and Garet. Only problem being is that Garet was to be in Wainwright, Alberta the next morning for hockey. 2 hours later Sheldon and Chad roll in with some gas. We fill it up and the thing will not start. No spark.... Lucky Friday the 13th right.... So all five us quad out on two quads leaving the ranger in the woods which I have to go try to get back to the lodge at Green Lake today. We get back to the lodge and we eat and Garet and I hit the road home. He sleeps all the way. I am tired.... We get back home at 2:00 AM and Garet heads to bed. Rick pulls in the same time as I do from running my combine. We bull shit for awhile and I go to bed. I am up at 7:00 AM and getting ready to take Garet to his hockey tournament. Another 2 hour drive to that. Long story short on the hockey end of it. They win both there games that day and are in the A final on Sunday... Nov.15th. They dont play to late afternoon so Garet and I head home back to Paradise Hill another 2 hour drive. I am going to post this as this is way to much typing and if something happens I will lose it all.....  G

Nov.11/09 - Thanks to all of our Veterans...... Weather is still warm.... Great for the guys harvesting yet. A little tougher on the deer hunters. But they are still out there and we are getting them. Dean my Brother from Goodsoil who runs that camp up there and is partners with Brandon and I in it called me up last night pretty excited. If you look at the camtracker pictures on our 2009 whitetail deer gallery and find a camtracker pic called SALTY with a big ass buck at it. Well we got him last night. Larry Hanshaw our only hunter at Goodsoil this week sat there all day Monday and then Tuesday at 11:00 AM the big guy showed up. He smoked him. I thought looking at the pictures that this buck would be around 170 inches. He grossed out at 167. Great buck with tonnes of mass which B&C scoring system sucks at. But it is a great true trophy whitetail and I am happy for Larry as he has been with us many years and has stuck to Buck Paradise and has killed a lot of great bucks, but this is his best to date. I will post pics of this buck as soon as Dean emails them to me. I will also repost the camtracker pics of this buck when I post them on the website with Larrys Buck. Dean first hunter was John Iverson. John sat 4 hours and shot a 153 inch beauty buck and then Larry sat for a day and 1/2 and shot a 167. THat is pretty damn good I would say. We are only 1/2 booked up there and I think it is a good year to be at the Goodsoil camp. We also have great pictures of big bucks at Green Lake and Paradise Hill. I talked to one of my guides at P Hill this morning and he has pics of a big non-typical with 3 drop tines. He is excited and has hunters in the area. Hopefully we get him. By the looks of our cameras there is excellent horn growth out there this year. Call if you would like to come up. We a good deal going on some cancellation hunts. I may head home today and combine for a few hours and then go watch Garet play hockey this evening and see my hunters at Paradise Hill. I updated the availability link but here it all is again. Later all! G

Nov.10/09 - Up at Green Lake. Day two of the 2nd week and our 3rd buck just came in. Good deer our there this year. I have great camtracker photos that I have posted on the 09 whitetail gallery and on the homepage. I have been pretty busy. Finally got all the pics well just about all of them on the sight now. Ian shot a nice 4X4 on the last day that Mossy Oak was here so it will make for a great show. Good bucks for both boys for the first bucks. We fought the full moon all last week with above average warm temperatures and we continue to see more warm weather this week. Not ideal, but we will deal with what we are given. I got my Ranger with the tracks stuck a few times the other night going into the Islands and was just about there and got stuck one more time and my winch crapped out on me... Johny and I sat there for 3 hours till Sheldon and Kyle came in with a skidoo and a come along, jack haul, chainsaw, straps and whatever else we needed. It took some work and I got stuck two more times coming out but we eventually got it out. The tracks truely worked awesome, and if the winch wouldnt have crapped out we would have made it no problem. I am getting the winch fixed and will try again as soon as we get it back on. If it would freeze up we would have no problem getting in there. Oh well. Better run for a bit. Enjoy the 09 whitetail deer gallery. I will keep up on it. Last week Green Lake was 16/17 and that was the only camp I had going. Great bunch of bucks from 135 to 162. Paradise Hill has a full camp this week and 2 good 150 plus bucks went down yesterday there. Goodsoil has 1 hunter and he is after that monster buck on Salty bait on the trailcam pictures. Well another deer just rolled into camp I am going to go check it out. Later all. Grant

Nov.05/09 - Sat with Ian ALL Day. Not a deer to be seen.... This is my 4th day in the blind... I know exactly how the hunters feel. Hopefully tomorrow we will get a good buck infront of Ian. He is frustrated with over 40 hours in the blind. He passed up on a nice 10 yesterday that I am thinking he wished he would have shot. I am thinking he was waiting for me to be there which is good. I hope we get one tomorrow as it is Mossy Oaks cameraman Steven and Coles day here with us. I want so much to get Ians first whitetail on film just like Garets. Green Lake is doing well... 12/17 and some good bucks are down. I am heading up there tomorrow night. I will get those pics posted on the weekend. I promise. Garets pics are on the sight and so will John Iversons and Rylen Kuypers who both shot there bucks up on our Goodsoil property. Still time to book for this year. Looking to be a good one and we have lots of room at Green Lake and Goodsoil. WISH Ian luck tomorrow. Pull for us... Thanks. Grant.

Nov.04/09 - I know, I know.... WHERE ARE THE PICS OF THIS YEARS DEER SO FAR GRANT???? Sorry everyone. I have been hunting or I mean sitting hard with Garet the past 3 days. Day 1 was pretty busy and we passed up the buck that we shot today on that day. Day 2 was very slow. A doe and fawn right of the get go in the morning and nothing till 5:45 that evening. What a long cold day. Today was awesome. Lots going on and a beautiful old 4X4 over 300 lbs walked in and it was over. Garet made a great shot with his 243 Remington and the buck only went about 15 yards and was done. All this will Steven Bush one of Mossy Oaks best Camerman behind him. We got some great footage and will make for a excellend show on one of Mossy Oaks T.V shows. It is late and i have to get to bed as I am going to sit with Ian tomorrow. He had a bad first two days without seeing a deer. Then today we moved him and he had a good day and passed on a pretty good 10 pointer... I hope it comes back tomorrow when I am with him. It was so cool hunting with Garet. They did a great job and when I get done with them, I will write a lot more detailed story on the hunts with them and Mossy Oak. Green Lake is doing well. No monsters from what I hear, but good solid bucks and a camp full of happy hunters. Wish me luck with Ian tomorrow. I promise this weekend I will get a shat load of pics put up on the sight. I have a lot with a bunch of camtracker pics and the deer that were taken this last week up at Green Lake. Good night all. Sorry for being a bad outfitter, but I am so enjoying this hunt with my sons. Grant

Oct.28/09 - Hi Everyone. Well I have tried to copy and paste our local weather for the week here around Paradise Hill. I have been busy with everything. Sat on the combine yesterday for about 5 hours till it started to rain again. Not much progress in the late harvest that is left. As soon as it gets nice out and a guy can go it turns to rain or snow. It is snowing lightly right now. I wish my combine was in the shed but I have to help my neighbors out. I heard yesterday that they figure 25% of the crop is still out in Saskatchewan. That is a lot. The boys at all the camps are going hard with baiting and getting everything ready. I have 1 hunter going into Goodsoil next week. I have the Mossy Oak cameras coming in on Sunday to video Ian and Garet on hopefully shooting there first whitetail buck. Green Lake has a full camp coming in including Pat and Nicole from Driven TV. So lots going on. By the looks of it outside I wont be combining today, so I will head back up to Green Lake to help out up there. My guides have there cameras out and are reporting seeing some strong 150 class bucks out there. Nothing HUGE yet, but we just started getting them all out. Garet had a exhibition game last Sunday vs Lloydminster. They won 5-0. They have there first league game on Saturday. Ian has been practising with his team and doing well. Well Corey and Kev and Jason are out in the shop. I should go see what they are doing. Talk to you all when I get up to Green Lake. Take care. Grant .... By the way. The weather is great for whitetail hunting...AND Garet and I saw a beauty 160 class crossing the highway by home the other day coming home from his hockey game. They are starting to move. Later.

Oct.22/09 - I am up at Green Lake. Great to be back. I came up Tuesday night. I baited the lake baits yesterday and did some walking around. It was great to be out and about again and the lake was beautiful. Saw a few moose. Lots of fresh deer shit around the baits. They were waiting for me. I am headed North this morning to do a few in that area and then I am heading back to Paradise Hill. Garet has an exhibition game tonight vs Wainwright. I am to say the least excited to watch them play. Ian is practising with his team in Paradise Hill tonight also. I am looking forward to seeing his team start also. I combined till 3:00 AM on Monday night. I helped the one neighbor who is Garets coach finish up his oats, and then around 10 I headed to Huschs to help them out and went till 3 on wheat and finished up the field. I was ready to combine on Tuesday but I woke up to snow and rain. It is raining again today and I think the farmers that have harvesting left are getting a little yancy. If that is a word or not, I dont know. But they are getting nervous I guess you could say. All the boys up at Green Lake are doing fine and going hard getting stuff put out and searching out new spots. I also baited up a new spot last night when I got off the lake that I found bear guiding this past spring. Looks to be a good spot. Well I better run so I can get back to Paradise Hill in time to get on the Happy bus that Garets team uses and go to his game. UFC fights this weekend. Not sure if I will be around home or up at Green Lake. Its good to be busy. THINK BIG DEER. G

Oct.19/09 - Snow is gone now and really that is not a bad thing. Still lots of crop to be harvested yet. We went to the neighbors this weekend and started helping them with there standing oats. We had some work to do the combine before that and know its good to go. Goose hunting is done for another year. There are still geese around. We hunted last Thursday AM. Good shoot. Right by my house again. We just sat in the bush on chairs. It was awesome. We shot 24 geese and 25 ducks that morning. Check out the pics on the 09 waterfowl gallery. I spent the day in the shop cleaning yesterday. We repainted the floor in the bar part. Place looks great and is ready for hunters. All my guys started baiting today up at Green lake, Goodsoil and Paradise Hill. The weather is nice. Highs of about 40 and lows of 32 forecasted for the week. Hopefully the showers stay away. I went to Vermillion   Alberta on Saturday to do the hockey scheduling for Garets team. They start the league on Oct.31. I am excited to see them play and I am working on getting them some exhibition games also. Ian will start practise this week with his team also. They have also been really busy with volley ball and school. Things are good. I have lots of opening for whitetails the 3rd and 4th week of November. Give me a call. Looking to be a good year. I am going to go post those pics of the last hunt now. I did buy a 40 by 8 by 8 foot sea can container. I took one up to Green Lake and one for here on the farm. The one at the farm is FULL of goose hunting stuff alone. At least it is all organized and in one place. I plan on selling some of our older but still awesome shape goose decoys. Call me if you are interested. I will try to get some pics going on the 09 whitetail sight of us setting up for the whitetail season. Take care and we will talk soon. Grant.

Oct.13/09 - How things can change in a week. It got COLD. It got SNOWY. Goose hunting got TOUGH....But there are still lots of geese around. I hunted with my oldest son Garet last week and we had a lot of fun. It was the first night it had snowed and that was on the 8th of October. Well the snow is still here. There is a lot of crop out yet and I may do some custom combining for a neighbor. Jeremy Ford, Rick and John hunted this morning and we did pretty good on the geese. It is sure cold sitting out there or did I mention that. When I last wrote on the 7th there were 10s of thousands of geese in the area. But that changed on the 8th. It got cold and it moved a shit load of geese out of the area. All the small ponds froze over and even some of the bigger lakes around. There is still open water and I was a little worriedn but after this morning I realized big time that there are still a tonne of birds in the area. Lots of big honkers and ducks. They are getting tough to shoot as they have been educated. We still knocked out a limit yesterday though. We were in a barley field with Round bails and we hid behind the bails because the blinds really stick out bad with the snow on the ground. I have no snow covers, but I am getting some... It was a fun hunt. Yesterday we spent the day in the shop after the hunt. We organized drawers and tools and the place looks great. A good friend of mine John Iverson is down from Alaska and he stopped to hunt for a few days. He brought us a wack of fish, some of which we caught last summer with Bowers. Plus some big Silver Salmon. We smoked them last night and this morning they were ready and MMMMMMM are they good. Well I am going to go for lunch. Garet made the Tier 1 Rage hockey team. There were some very tough decisions on some of the kids that did not make it.... He practises tonight and Thursday and being that I am the manager I am looking for a game for them on Sunday. Our Ice will be in our rink on Thursday. Ian and a few of his buddys from Paradise Hill will be hooking up with the neighboring town of Hillmond to play with them. SO everyone has a home to play hockey on. This is good. Later all! G

Oct.07/09 - Sheldon and his crew slammed another limit this morning no problem. Windy and cold and the birds wanted in... Barcley and Kevin and Joey also shot this morning and limited out in no time also. I have not heard back from Johny yet, but I think Barcley said they just needed a few more for a limit. So, the bird hunting is still fantastic. Wish we had more hunters coming in. Hopefully it will pick up next year. I spent all day in the office yesterday. Got a lot caught up which is good. Called a lot of hunters and stuff like that. Looking like I will be doing much the same today. Corey and Rick are washing the walls in the shop. It looks great. Barcley, Johny and Kevin are done guidind now and I think Barcley is going to hang out for a couple of days which is good. Our good buddy Joey also heads home today. It was a lot of fun having Joey around and I hate to see him go, but he has a big birthday party happening for him on Friday that he has to get home for. It is cold and I saw a few snow flakes fall this morning. To early for that. Lots of crop out yet to be harvested. I hope it gets nice out for the farmers that are not finished. Later. G kuyp out.

Oct.06/09 - Raining out this morning. Just got off the phone with Sheldon. A lot of birds in the area, but the rain made them stick out bad. They still ended up with 20 geese. Also just talked with Johny  and they had a good shoot. They set up for snows and did well on them, but they put a hurting on the ducks and limited out on ducks. That is cool. Corey is busy washing the walls and ceiling in the shop. It will be bright in there when he is done that. I see he just started a fire. I guess wood cutting begins for the winter. Hopefully it will warm up yet this fall as there are still farmers out there that have crop to take off. I am going to go help a friend out when ever it gets dry enough. Garet skated well last night. 28 kids showed up. Going to be tough to cut some of them as we only need 17. But that is not my job thank god. I am in the office for the most part today. I have to head into town later for a few things and then will go help scout for tomorrow mornings shoot. 8 hunters will leave tomorrow and 3 new ones will be showing up. So I guess you could say things are winding down. I have my good friend John coming in from Alaska on Saturday and we will hunt with him next week. He is bringing a bunch of salmon that we caught up there this summer with Bower home to us. I am looking forward to grilling and smoking a bunch of it up. John sent me a new smoker recipe book, so this winter I hope to experiment with that a bit. Well I better go. G

Oct.05/09 - I just finished looking back into my journal from last year at this time. As they say. Time flys. It was cool to go back and see what we were doing a year ago. I erased some of it, but then decided to leave a bunch of it on as I want to go back and read some more of it. Chad and Clay left us yesterday. Sad to see my two brothers from Nevada leave us. We are now equiped with 20 dozen fully flocked awesome looking decoys and I will be selling some of my old ones. Call me if you are interested to all of my local friends who join us on the Journal here. I went to Lloyd yesterday with Shelly to help her with the Grocerys. Poor girl is having bad back problems and I hope she gets better soon. I remember having a bad back from when I used to sit on a tractor for many hours each day and it is no fun at all. Since I dont spend that much time on a tractor any more, more time on a quad now which is way more fun, my back has felt awesome. The weather has really cooled down. We 3 days of hunters left and then just one group the last 1/2 of the week and then my old friend John Iverson will hunt a couple of days next week and is bringing up all our Salmon that we caught up there this summer. Hmmm, I better get the smoker warmed up. Getting back to Chad and Clay. We coyote hunted all day Friday and we called in two coyotes, but both would not give me a shot were there camera could have got on them. So we never shot a coyote. I am hoping that they both come back in Febuary and revenge will be upon them. Thanks for everything Chad. I love my new Fowl life Little man zink goose call. It is so awesome and I appreciate it a lot. Also thanks for the new bibs and jacket and all the other awesome gear and clothes that you left behind. I am spending some time in the office today. Garet had hockey tryouts starting tonight for the Rage team. He should do well. Meadow Lake AA is still calling to have him play up there. We will see what things look like tonight. I better get busy. Sheldon and Johny both have crews out goose hunting this morning. I have not heard from them on how it is going. Take care all and enjoy this funny joke. Grant

OH ya.... THANKS BRANDON..... You are awesome.

Oct.03/09 - Well here I sit at my computer having a hard time keeping my eyes open. Always happens after a good goose hunt and a good hot lunch right afterward. This morning I hunted with my son Ian and his good friend Mitch and our good friends Chad and Clay Belding and Rick Meacham. We shot in one of my pea fields and had about 100 out of a 1000 land in the spread before Chad hollered TAKE EM... It was awesome. We had a great shoot and I always enjoy hunting with Ian. There are a lot of geese around. The best I have ever seen it probably. So it has been limit shoot after limit shoot. I would say 80 percent of the crop around here is in the bin. The weather has really cooled down and is trying to give us some precipitation. Nice to have it cool down for the goose hunting. We have 3 bear hunters in this week. Corey Jenkins is back and he is taking care of them. He reported having a great season up in the North West Territories. Sure is good to have him back. I am in charge of a community fundraising event tonight. We are hosting a Texas Holdem Poker tournament in Paradise Hill. Should be fun. Then there is a dance and supper and silent auction. I am going to go have a quick nap. Later all. Grant

Sorry forgot to add that Brandon had to leave earlier in the week. He had to head  back north to his job as a tupperware salesman. BYE Brandon we will miss you. Don't worry we will put away all your decoys and clean your trailer up. Management at Buck PAradise would like to extend a big thank you to Kevin, Cory, Sheldon, John and Barcley for working hard to keep the camp rolling. Thank you Fellas.Brandon a special thank you to you for helping out when you were here as well.

Sept 25/09  - Crazy busy, crazy busy, crazy busy. I am still tired.... We are combining oats over at Maiers. Should be done today and not sure if I will get any more custom combine work as the weather has been HOT and the farmers are working hard and long hours to get it in the bin. A remarkable amount of harvesting has been done over the last week. THe hunting has been good and sometimes very tough. Being it is so hot and dry out the birds are really not that hungry. But oh my god is there birds in the area. It is as good as I have seen it in a long time. I hunted with Chad, Alex, Brandon this morning and there two cameraman Tyler and James. We knocked 25 greaters out this morning and easily could have shot 7 more for a limit, but unless there feet were out and they were committed to our spread we did not shoot. Great hunt, fun hunt and will make a awesome tv show for the Fowl Life with Chad Belding. Overall the hunts have been excellent even with no wind and hunting with just a t-shirt on. Record breaking temps have been recorded throughout Western Canada. It is just unreal. It is suppose to cool down some and this will make the birds hungy and we will be on them. I am going to finish combining today and then get mad at the coyotes... I got to go. Take care all... Grant

Sept 19/09 - I picked up Chad last night. Sure was good to see my brother from another mother. He is doing fine and is excited to be here. We had a good visit on the way home from Saskatoon last night. Long day for me. Up at 4:00 AM to go help Sheldon set up for geese. They limited out by the way and that was yesterday. I got home at about 3:00 AM so about a 23 hour day. Slept for about 4 this morning and back at her. I am heavy eyed though as I right this and it is only 2:17 PM. The itching is still itching..... I hate it. Shelly fixed me up a bath with oatmeal and baking soda. That really helped and then I lathered up with Aloe Vera. So far so good. UFC fights are on tonight. I have them rented out in my shop for the crew. Take care all I may go have a quick nap... Later. Grant

Sept 18/09 - Wow, I am sorry, but I have had really no time to get on here to update.... I know, I know..... Anyways I finished harvesting my peas last Saturday. That felt great. They ran 65 bushels to the acre. The best crop I have ever grown. It was awesome. Only problem is that pea dust it bad. I would blow off the combine every morning and get full of that fine pea dust. Sit on the combine all day covered in the pea dust and go to bed to tired to shower covered in pea dust and now I have a rash from hell all over my body. It got bad a couple of nights ago and I was only getting about 1 1/2 hours of sleep a night. That is not enough. It did not bother me much during the day when I was busy, but it drove me crazy at night when I would go to bed. Scratching till I bled sometimes..... So yesterday after I helped Sheldon set up for our new group I headed to Turtleford to the doctor and got some proper medication and I slept a lot better last night. I am still itchy but not as bad. Thanks Doc. But just thinking about it I am getting itchy..... So no more about that. The Goose and Duck hunting has been going awesome. There are so many birds in the area. I think mainly is because it is so dry in the west and we are in good shape for moisture in these parts. I spoke with a outfitter last night from Edmonton, Alberta and he was having to travel a long ways East which is toward us to get geese. Tomorrow we will be hunting a field 1 mile from my house. MY pea field.... I love it. It was loading up beautiful the past two nights. Barcleys group of guys have also been knocking limits everyday. It is as good as it ever has been. To bad I have openings next week. You are missing out if you are a waterfowler and are reading this. Well I got to go. I got to go to Paradise Hill, then to Meadow Lake and then to Saskatoon to pick up Mr.Chad Belding. He is coming in by himself a few days early before the rest of the Fowl Life team arrives. We will be hunting and filming for his awesome TV show The Fowl Life. Watch it you will love it. Take care all I got lots of miles to make yet today and it is already 2:00 PM. I have to be in Meadow before 5:00 PM and I still have to go do the pics of the last two days hunts and have a shower and then hit the road. Take care all. Shoot me a email to say Hi. Oh ya.... Deer hunts have been booking up pretty good this last week. People must be getting the itch.... Oh shit, i just said itch..... Good bye.... Grant

"Holy Prostitutes"

A man is driving down a deserted stretch of highway when he
notices a sign out of the corner of his eye....It reads:

 SISTERS OF ST. FRANCIS
 HOUSE OF PROSTITUTION
 10 MILES

He thinks this is a figment of his imagination and drives
 on without second thought...

Soon he sees another sign which reads:

 SISTERS OF ST. FRANCIS
 HOUSE OF PROSTITUTION
 5 MILES

Suddenly he begins to realize that these signs are for real
and drives past a third sign saying:

 SISTERS OF ST. FRANCIS
 HOUSE OF PROSTITUTION
 NEXT RIGHT

His curiosity gets the best of him and he pulls into the
drive. On the far side of the parking lot is a stone building
with a small sign next to the door reading:

 SISTERS OF ST. FRANCIS

He climbs the steps and rings the bell. The door is answered by a nun in a long black habit who asks, "What may we do for you my son?"

He answers, "I saw your signs along the highway and
was interested in possibly doing business...."

"Very well my son Please follow me." He is led through many winding passages and is soon quite disoriented. The nun stops at a closed door and tells the man, "Please knock on this door."

He does so and another nun in a long habit, holding a tin cup answers the door... This nun instructs, "Please place $100 in the cup then go through the large wooden door at the end of the hallway."

He puts $100 in the cup, eagerly trots down the hall and
slips through the door pulling it shut behind him.

The door locks, and he finds himself back in the parking lot facing another sign:

 GO IN PEACE.
YOU HAVE JUST BEEN SCREWED BY THE SISTERS OF ST FRANCIS.
 SERVES YOU RIGHT, YOU SINNER

Sept 10/09 - Just about done 2/3 of my pea harvest. They are running great, I am thinking about 60 Bu per acre. 160 or so acres to go. Geese are landing on the harvested ones and I am excited to hunt them in the near future. We have to let them build up more though. So, I have been living on the combine. Get up, look for geese some, blow the combine off, grease it, wash windows, unload grain trucks all with the help of whom ever is around. Sheldon is off looking for a bear that one of his hunters Devon put a arrow through last night. Hope they find it. Of all 3 bear hunters all are seeing plenty of bears. Goose hunting has been awesome with limits coming in every day. I am a little tired as I usually quit combining around 9:30 as it gets tough after that and wont go through the combine very good. I know this from expierence and it is not fun unplugging the combine in the dark. But I better get going. You all take care and we will talk to you later. Grant. Brandon WILL be updating the website soon. I have had them pretty busy. By.

Sept 08/09 - Happy Birthday to my beautiful Mom. Love you! Well yesterday was our first day of waterfowl hunting. We have 4 hunters with us. Bob and Robert Namay, this is there 3rd trip up waterfowling with us and Bill Schagel and Devon David. I guided Bill way back before I was a outfitter and was guiding for another fella. We have became very good friends over the years and have hunted in Alaska together one time. The four of them headed out to a harvested pea field yesterday with guide Brandon Schreiber and knocked out a limit of greater honkers. A good way to start the 09 season. They are hunting the same field again as it was filled up last night. There are new birds coming into the area pretty steadily now and I exspect it a week we should have lots of fields to chose from. There are getting to be lots of peas harvested and the geese will head to those fields. I am just about done the first 160 acres that I am on. They are running very well and I am happy. I got on the phone last night at about 9:00 and called another farmer friend as he told me as soon as it gets dark you are done combining peas, well it was dark at about 8:30 and I called him and as I was talking to him, I plugged the thing up solid. He laughed at me and I deserved it. So I got a fun job ahead of me this morning. Hopefully Brandon and the boys have a good shoot this morning and we continue to do so during the week. Thanks to Melissa, Brandons girlfriend for doing the website pics up yesterday. She did a great job. I got to go unplug my combine. ARRRR. later...

Sept 06/09 - Got some combining done yesterday. Not a lot by the time I got the combine set the way I wanted to and all. But overall it went good. A few green tough peas on the outside round but as I got into the crop the better it looked. It was testing about 14.5 % moisture and dry for peas is 16%. So I got started anyways. Woke up this morning around 6:30 and jumped in my truck with a thermos of coffee and started looking for geese. Quite a few big honkers around. Found a field just north of home with about 150 in it and then headed south up on the hill and found another with about 300 on it. Brandon headed West yesterday and also found a couple of good fields. He and Johny and the girls were busy getting decoys loaded in trailers yesterday and getting things ready. John and Brandon were also busy with Garet and Ian cleaning bins and getting things ready for that also. I combined till about 9:00 last night and then shut her down as it was starting to chatter a bit so no use pushing it. Thought I would get a good start today, but it showered this morning. Piss me off. But if the sun comes out which it is suppose to and the wind keeps blowing, maybe sometime after lunch I will be able to fire up again. I will go clean up in the shop and get the combine ready when I am done writing on here. John and Brandon and there girls headed up to Goodsoil last night to go to Bro Deans B day party and Brandon and Melissa had a wedding to go to. Garet has a skate in Lloydminster this evening. Well, I am going to pray for sun, geese and no breakdowns on my combine and good hunting. I will talk to you all later. Peace out. Grant.

Sept 05/09 - Happy Birthday to my Brother Dean. He turns 40 today. I had my Birthday yesterday. I am going to try combining my peas today. I am excited to try them. They look like a pretty damn good crop. We have been working hard all week getting things done around here. 4 hunters coming in tomorrow. We will be ready. Brandon and John and I were all out spotting this morning and found some good fields that are ready. There are a few pea fields harvested and I exspect by the end of next week a lot of them will be taken off. Brandon and John are here helping me today. If my peas are tough we are heading up to Brother Deans this afternoon to help him celebrate his 40th. My sis in Law Jodi is also down from Calgary. Sheldon and Kevin had other committments today but will be back around tomorrow. I am so pumped about this time of the year. Check out the 2009 waterfowl gallery. I have some pics on there of us getting ready for the upcoming season. Enjoy and be ready for more to be coming on daily. We have 4 goose hunters coming in and 3 of them will be hunting bear in the evenings. Should be fun. Weather outlook is good so if these peas are dry hopefully in about a week I will have them in the bin. I got to go try combing. I still have openings for waterfowl. Call me on my cell I will have time to talk while I am combining. Take care all. Grant.

Aug 31/09 - Goose season is closing in. I have hunters coming in on the 6th. NOt many, so if you still want to come, please call me. I have 4 guys coming on on Sunday and they are doing a Bear/goose combo hunt. Sheldon and Kevin are out rebaiting today so it will be interesting to see how things are looking. Shelly and the boys and I were up at Green Lake over the weekend. The weather was beautiful and it was hot. Actually August has been our warmest and nicest month all summer. My peas are turning fast and if not by the weekend, I think they will be ready to harvest by next week forsure. They are all standing pretty nice at this time and the weather for the week sounds good. It would sure be nice to get them off before we get to busy with our waterfowl hunts. I have spent the morning in the office, emailing and calling hunters and trying to get them to come up this year, but it is tough. Johny Prosak is also coming into camp this afternoon to help get things in order and Brandon will be here Thursday or Friday. Barcley may show up on the weekend, we are not sure about that yet. Other than that, we spent all of last week cleaning up around the yard mowing grass. Fixed up my round baler that had been out of commision for the past two years so it ready to go. I will pull out my combine this afternoon I think and start going through it. I am excited to get out there and harvest that pea crop. It looks good and thank the good lord for that. Pics of geese and bears will soon be on the website. Keep an eye out for them. Take care all. Grant

Sask Drunk, you just gotta love it!!!!

Only in Saskatchewan!!

How many of our Officers would find the humour in this e-mail! After all, I am sure he was sitting there laughing at this guy the entire time.

Recently, during a routine patrol, an RCMP patrolman parked down the street outside a Legion Hall just off the main Street at Estevan, Saskatchewan.

After last call, the officer observed a man leaving the Legion Hall. The gentleman was so intoxicated that he could barely walk. He then stumbled around the parking lot for a few minutes, with the officer quietly observing. After what seemed an eternity and trying his keys on five different vehicles, the man managed to find his car, which he fell into.

He sat there for a few minutes and then threw a hook and line out the window and seemed to be trying to catch a fish.. A number of other
patrons paid no attention to  this crazy drunk as they left the bar and drove off.

Finally the drunk started the car, switched the wipers on and off (it was a fine, dry summer night) flicked the blinkers on and off a couple of times, honked the horn, and switched on the headlights.

He then pulled in the hook and line and moved the vehicle forward a few inches, reversed a little and then remained still for a few more minutes as some more of the  other patron vehicles left. At last, the parking lot was empty; he pulled out of the parking lot and started to
drive slowly down the road.

The officer, having patiently waited all this time, now started up the patrol car, put on the flashing lights, and promptly pulled the
man over. He performed a breathalyzer test on the gentleman who cooperated fully, and to his amazement the breathalyzer indicated
no evidence of the man having consumed any  alcohol at all!

Dumbfounded, the officer said, 'I'll have to ask you to accompany me to Headquarters. This breathalyzer equipment must be broken."
"I doubt it," said the truly proud Saskie,"Tonight I'm the designated decoy."

Aug 17/09 - Sorry .... I know it has been a long time.... But. I guess I have been busy, doing a little work and well a lotta play. I just got back from a fishing trip with my two sons. We went up North to were my Dad built a cabin with some friends about 20 some years ago. It had been about 4 years since I had been there with my Dad and it was sure good to get there again. The cabin was in great shape with many improvements that have been done by a few good friends since I have been there. Dad willed his 1/2 share of the cabin to Dean and I. When we got there Garet and Ian were very impressed that such a nice facility could be found 8 hours north of home where there is really nothing but lakes, sand flies, Mosquitos and FISH. We took some friend with there sons along and we all had a great time. We fished what we call Lake 3 for a couple of days and then there was a lake that I always have wanted to fish and never did as there was about a 1/4 mile portage to do. Well I had 5 strong boys and 4 strong Dads and we decided to portage all 3 boats over. It took some work but it was well worth it. We took home our limit of Lake trout that afternoon and let lots go to. The boys had a blast and so did I. I am not sure if that lake had a name as there are hundreds of lakes up there so we renamed it Lens Lake. Brandon had portaged a boat in there a couple of years ago and made a nice trail which really helped out a lot. The boys learned out to fish, fillet fish, pack fish, smoke fish and we ate a lot of fish. They learned quite a bit on this trip. We cleaned up the cabin yesterday and I am quite fussy about how I leave things so it took us a good while to get it in the shape I wanted it to be. We got back to my enclosed skidoo trailer by the main road about 5 miles from the camp where left it as I did not want to bounce it down that old rough trail. We brought it along with 4 quads in it which helped us haul boats from lake to lake and we did not have to wreck our trucks while we were in there doing that. Any how, we get back to the trailer and a flat tire. We try to blow it up, but no go. The air compressor was broken. So we get the spare out which I brought two of to learn that the one spare was to big and had a different lugg pattern. So we were down to  no spare tires. We get about 80 miles and boom we are down a tire. We find another compressor in my Rons truck. It works and we fix up the tire we took off up by the camp. On the road again. 40 minutes later we are at Pine house as the boys needed a snack. Another low tire. The 2nd air compressor craps out on us so we are on the hunt for a air compressor. We found a good fellow who opened up the fire department shop and gives us air. We fix the tire and are on our way again. 70 more miles to Beauval. We stop about 10 miles out of Beauval as Ian has to have a whiz as he likes to call it and low and behold we have another low tire. We take it off and Ron and I run into Beauval find a fellow who was working out in his shop and he kindly lets us fix our tire there. Back to the truck we go. All is good and we are on pavement know. The gravel roads up there kill tires. I notice a cotter pin stuck in one of my truck tires. More worries as we carry on. It is dark know and we are about 1 hour from Green Lake. I am tired and so are the boys. Garet, Ian and Rick who is a good friend of our from Australlia decide to spend the night at Green Lake, being we had no spare tires left and it was dark. Ron and Neil and there boys carry on back to Paradise Hill. We all had a good sleep. Woke up to a beautiful morning and Rick and I enjoyed it with several cups of coffee. I called Shelly and everything was good at home so Rick and I decided to go try to catch a Lake Trout on Green Lake. They are in there, but I have never caught one. We tried it for 3 hours with no luck. But what a beautiful day to be on the Lake. Got back into the lodge. The boys had some pork chops cooked up for us. We ate them and headed home. We met brother Dean in Goodsoil were Rick jumped in with them as that is were he is staying. Good to get home and see Shelly. She missed us all, but I think she enjoyed her alone time for 5 days. I had a great time with my boys and I look forward to doing it next year. I still have to come on here and tell some storys of my Alaska fishing trip and I promise I will do that in the next week. I borrowed a few good storys from UFC fighter Matt Hughes website. I hope he does not mind. Matt will be hunting with us from Nov. 02-0 this year. I still have openings available at that time if you want to be in camp as the same week that Matt is. He is a great guy. Also Pat Reeve and Nicole Jones who have become like family in the last year will also be there with us. Will be a great week. Give me a call if you want in. Take care all. Grant

- Just got back from the lake. We were up at a lake about 40 miles north of home today. Just hanging with a few friends and took up some salmon and halibut up for supper. It was delicious. The weather was good for about 15 minutes after we got there, then it started to rain. Oh well, it was still a lot of fun. Bowers is on his way home from Kenai. I talked to him today and he sounded depressed. He did not want to leave. But he ended the last few days there with a few friends catching more reds and Kings. It has been good to be home. My crops (all peas) look awesome. I just hope that a hail storm does not come through and screw things up. I have never harvested peas before and I am excited about it, but it will be a good month plus before I will be able to get into them. All the crops are about 3 weeks behind, so hopefully we have a nice long dry fall so that everyone can get there crops in. There are good crops out there around this area. Tomorrow, Garet and Ian and few of our good friends are going to make the trek up to Pierceland up by where Mark and Carla live. I bought 1500 square hay bails up there for deer bait. I have 4 trucks with trailers heading up there and about 10 guys, so it shoud not take us to long I hope. Well I better hit the hay. Take care all!!! Grant.

July 29/09 - I am back. I was suppose to be back on the 25th, BUT, I just could not leave Bowers on that boat with a empty seat (2-3 actually) I had a great trip....I caught my first 45 lb King Salmon (Chinook) within 25 minutes of being on the river. I was right about Bowers wanting to fish as soon as we got there and we did. We fished till about 1:00 AM. I just got back home a couple of hours ago, I am tired. I will get on here tomorrow and give you a full report and try to get some pictures on here somewhere to share with you all. We caught a lot of fish. About 450 lbs of awesome Salmon. Mostly reds (Sockeyes). Later all. Grant

July 15/09 - I am in my office and I really should be packing for my fishing trip. I will get to it right after I am done on here... We leave this afternoon and fly out early tomorrow AM. We arrive in Kenia around 3:00 PM Alaska time. Not sure if we will try to get out to fish tomorrow night or not. Knowing Bowers, I would say Yes we will try to get a few hours in. That guys is crazy when it comes to fishing those Big King Salmon. It is fun. I spoke with Matt Hughes this morning. He is hunting down in Texas and having fun. He is coming up here on Nov.02 this year for another whitetail hunt. If you would like to hunt at Green Lake Nov.02-07 when Matt is going to be there, please give me a call. I have 5-6 spots still available. Matt is a great guy and a lot of fun to be around. Well, that is my sells pitch for the day. I will be back on July 25th. I will post pictures of the trip and through in some stories. I am sure that Brandon will fall out of the boat or something crazy like that. Take care all and if you need to call me. Call  my cell.               1-780-214-4638         1-780-214-4638. Or shoot my a email. My Black Berry will get it all. What would we do with out them. Later. Grant. GOING FISHING!!!!

July 12/09 - Another inch of rain last week here at the farm. It was a crappy week for Ians last level of swimming lessons but he passed and he and Garet are know done with swimming lessons unless they want to teach then they will have to continue on. The weekend was very nice though. Ian and Shelly came home on Friday after lessons and Garet and I stayed up there till Saturday evening. Barcley Fisher was up visiting his family and stopped in to see us. He came home with me on Saturday night and we rented the UFC 100 fights out in the shop, cooked deer sausage, watched the fights which I loved and had a good time. I had to get up at 6:00 AM this morning though as Shelly and the boys and I headed into Lloydminster to clean up garbage from the fair that went on there last week. There were about 20 or so people from Paradise Hill there and it took us about 3 hours. The community was there all week cleaning and we raised $5000.00 for our new community hall that we plan on building in the near future. It is going to cost a lot but every little bit helps. Then we came home and I jumped in my tractor and started harrowing my summerfallow until I got it a crap load of wire all wrapped up in the harrows. I came in and had a nap and went back out after supper and fixed it all up and harrowed till dark. I had Garet for his first time run a tractor and a rock picker. Most of the rocks were around a bush that we buried last fall and he got stuck in it, so I have to go pull it out in the morning. It was really cool farming with my son. I dont think it is something either one of them will want to make a career out of, but you never know. I bought this old tractor from a old friend of mine. It is a 4 wheel drive case 2670. The last time he used it two years ago it was pushing antifreeze through the over flow on it. So he parked it and never started it again. I bought it from him for $1000.00. I was hoping it would be something easy and cheap like a head gasket, but no... All three heads were cracked and the turbo was gone on it. I got it fixed by a friend of mine and I am not sure yet but I probably had to sink another $4-5000.00 into it. I used it today and it worked really good. Even so, where can you get a good used 4-wheel drive tractor for $5-6000.00 bucks. I hope it holds up, but it should for the little bit of work that I have here for it to do. Anyways Garet was in one tractor picking stones and I was harrowing in the other. It was cool. I am going back fishing to Alaska with Bowers, Brandon Schreiber, Barcley Fisher and Jason Mckenzie here on Wednesday. I will be gone for 10 days. I will blog about the trip when I get back or maybe find a computer when I get there and give a update. Seen some good bucks today. Horn growth seems to be excellent... I have been hearing good reports from several people around the area. Later. Grant.

July 07/09 - Hey everyone, I just came home from the lake for the day to take care of some office work. Bookings are starting to pick up. This makes me very happy. It is raining lightly outside today. The past few days have been nice and warm and things around this area are growing very nicely. You do not have to go very far west or east and things are very dry. We are very lucky and I am very thankful for that. Ian is working on finishing his last level of swimming lessons this week. Garet is enjoying finished being done with that and sleeping in in the mornings and just having fun at the lake. They do a lot of tubing and wake boarding. Poor Ian got the itch bad yesterday after swimming lessons. I thought the poor kid was going to crawl out of his skin. We applied, baby oil, vinegar and some benedryl and he felt better within a hour. But he was pissed about it at the time. The weather is suppose to clear up tomorrow and I hope the sun comes out so we can enjoy our week at the lake. Shelly has the week off work also so that is good. My good friend Stu Barthel and Brian Bielecki are also up there with there familys and we are planning to hit a little trout hole good here in the next couple of days. So that is were I am at. I have been seeing some good horn growth on some of the bucks that I have been fortunate enough to see. So it is looking to be a good season in my books. Corey Jenkins is still helping me out on the farm. He is heading to NWT here in 2 weeks and I will not see my friend until mid september. Hey tonight is Chads The Fowl Life second show coming on wild tv. I loved the last one. If you saw it, email me your thoughts. Look on the main page for the times it will be viewing on your outdoor channels. I am heading back to the lake. TROUT beware.... Enjoy the little story below. By all. Grant.

Jack decided to go skiing with his buddy, Bob. So they loaded up Jack's minivan and headed north. After driving for a few hours, they got caught in a terrible blizzard. So they pulled into a nearby farm and asked the attractive lady who answered the door if they could spend the night.
"I realize it's terrible weather out there and I have this huge house all to myself, but I'm recently widowed," she explained. "I'm afraid the neighbors will talk if I let you stay in my house."

"Don't worry," Jack said. "We'll be happy to sleep in the barn. And if the weather breaks, we'll be gone at first light." The lady agreed, and the two men found their way to the barn and settled in for the night. Come morning, the weather had cleared, and they got on their way. They enjoyed a great weekend of skiing.

But about nine months later, Jack got an unexpected letter from an attorney. It took him a few minutes to figure it out, but he finally determined that it was from the attorney of that attractive widow he had met on the ski weekend.

He dropped in on his friend Bob and asked, "Bob, do you remember that good-looking widow from the farm we stayed at on our ski holiday up north about 9 months ago ?"

"Yes, I do." said Bob

"Did you, er, happen to get up in the middle of the night, go up to the house and pay her a visit?"

"Well, um, yes !," Bob said, a little embarrassed about being found out, "I have to admit that I did."

"And did you happen to give her my name instead of telling her your name?"

Bob's face turned beet red and he said, "Yeah, look, I'm sorry, buddy. I'm afraid I did." "Why do you ask?"

"She just died and left me everything.."

(And you thought the ending would be different, didn't you?... you know you smiled...now keep that smile for the rest of the day!

July 03/09 - Hey everyone. Been busy getting all of my wheat out. I am taking the last load in this morning. Been going up to the lake in the evenings as that is were Garet and Ian are at. Shelly has been working at the hospital a lot this week. We are looking forward to a week of swimming lessons for Ian next week, but the weather sounds crappy. We have been getting a lot of rain and things are looking fantastic. There are going to be great goose hunts this fall. I can not wait. I watched Chads show on Wild TV. I loved it. I can not wait to see the next one and the one after that. If you have watched the show, please email me your thoughts on it. We want to make it bigger and better than anyone elses out there. Thanks all. Click onto the link below. It is a cool story about white deer in Wisconsin. If the link does not work and you want to see it, email me at grant@buckparadise.com and I will email it to you. Later. Grant

June 30/09 - Last day of June. Received another 1 inch of rain last night. All good. One more load of wheat to go out tonight yet and then that job will be finished. All good. Might head to the lake with the family for a few days. Call my cell and leave a message if you need to get a hold of me. Thanks... Also watch for Chad Belding new show The fowl life. I have the times on the homepage and above. It will be a awesome show. Later all. Grant.

June 25/09 - Goodmorning. Things are beautiful in Saskatchewan today. Its humid, the grass is growing, my peas are growing, baby geese are growing so that we can shoot them in there minds this fall, deer are growing. Its all good. Well we have been busy on the farm this week. Corey is hitting our summerfallow today with the harrow packers to break up those grass lumps up some more, it is looking really good. The boys are done school. They are quite happy about it. They did very well with there marks and we are hoping that they both made the honour roll for the 4th semester as they did for the first 3. Usually I talk about them and there sports, well last night I went to play ball with a bunch of friends. Slow Pitch... Never played that before. It was fun and I enjoyed the hell out of it. We lost, but again it was all in good fun. Garet and Ian and I might head up to Green Lake today to check on some things there. Maybe spend the night up at Loon lake where our camper is and then come home as the boys have to get there report cards tomorrow morning. Ian will be celebrating his 13th birthday tomorrow also. Happy Birthday Ian!!! They are both growing up way to fast. But they are getting to be good hands around the farm. I am still riding the bike. Not as much as I was Jan, Feb, March and April, but still get out there. Actually I did something different yesterday, I jumped on Ians Mountain bike and went for a ride. I went around what I call the block around our farm. It was 10 miles and I did in 58 Minutes. Riding a bike on gravel is hard. I enjoyed the different workout and it felt good. Still battling with the grain buyers to get my wheat out. I am actually on the phone right now waiting for them to figure things out and we got things figured out. Start hauling tomorrow and give her Friday, Saturday and then I will have two trucks running on Monday and we should be done Tuesday night I hope. That will be another good job to have out of my hair and the money will come in pretty damn handy also. Funny how that is. Our good ol government is going to get most of it... But thats life. All is good and I am a happy camper. Take care all! Grant

June 22/09 - Million Dollar rain is a understatement. Over the last week here at the farm we have received over 4 inches of rain. We needed rain as thing were pretty dry. Yesterday which was Fathers Day I had to go sell tickets for a community fundraiser and it started to rain at about 10:00 AM, well it did not stop until this morning. Close to 2 inches of rain. Last week Corey was helping me for the week and we got a lot accomplished here at the farm. We got all of our grass land worked up and got the yard looking beautiful. Also did lots of work around the shop and it was a great week of rain and hot sun. Friday night we had a windup here for Garets AAA hockey team. Had a nice BBQ and had a great gathering. Chad Belding is having his premier party July 5th in Reno and he wants Shelly and I to go down, but we will see what all happens around here. July 5th is the day his show airs on different channels and Buck Paradise is all over it. I will get more details of which channels and times that the show will air. You are going to love it. Chad does a great job and I exspect it to be one of the top hunting shows on the air. It is pretty wet here today. Corey is still here for another week or so. We got one load of wheat out which sucks but the elevator was full again and the promised me that this week we would be able to move more grain. We can not today as it is to wet and soft around the yard. So I am going to spend most of my day in the office and Corey is going to work around the shop. Garet and Ian have 3 days of school left and they are done. They are looking forward to there summer holidays. Shelly is taking them to Lloyd this afternoon to get them a few clothes for summer. She has also been working on and off partime in the care home hospital in St.Walburg. So things are busy. I am always working on booking hunts, which is actually starting to come around. Lunch time.... Talk to you all later. Grant.

April 15/08 - Hello friends. The past two days have been the saddest days of my life. Dad past away yesterday around 5:30 PM. All the family was there for him and he died in peace and know is in a happier place. Dad was only 65 years old and much to young to go. He had many fishing and hunting trips and poker games in him yet.....We spent today with Mom, helping getting things ready for Dad's funeral which will be Thursday at 2:00 PM in Paradise Hill. Prayers will be there also Wednesday night at 7:30. I write this as a lot of my local friends read my journal and I wanted them to know when everything is. Mom has received a lot of food, flowers and cards and calls of sympathy and to all we really appreciate it. Dad was a awesome man. We are all going to miss him so much. I am getting emails and calls from my friends in the states that have heard and this also means a lot to me. A lot of my hunters who got to meet Len, will never forget him. I think some of them liked to hang out and hunt with Dad more than anything. They would come to camp, shoot out on the 1st day or two and then ask where Len was.... He made a great impact on all the people he met. He was a very generous person. I have many storys, which I hope to share with you all. Some may be on here, some sitting out in the shop or some on the drive home from a day of hunting. He always enjoyed coming up to the camps and taking the guys fishing, or shooting gophers, hunting geese with them, or even sometimes he would just take them for a drive showing off this part of our wonderful province, which he also loved so much. He enjoyed hosting as much as I do and he was great at it. I am going to miss him a lot, we all will!!! My brother Dean and my sister Lenora also have many great memorys of Dad. He was a great father and if not for him and my Mom, I would not be were I am at today. Dad believed in hard work and a lot of that we did, all of us kids have instilled that in our businesses today and he was very proud of all of us. I appreciate all of your prayers. Be ready when you arrive at camp this year for some storys about my Dad "Smoken Len". We love him a lot and he will be greatly missed. Take care everyone!

FORREST GUMP GOES TO HEAVEN

The day finally arrived. Forrest Gump dies and goes to Heaven. He is at the Pearly Gates, met by St. Peter himself. However, the gates are closed, and Forrest approaches the gatekeeper.

St. Peter said, ‘Well, Forrest, it is certainly good to see you. We have heard a lot about you. I must tell you, though, that the place is filling up fast, and we have been administering an entrance examination for everyone. The test is short, but you have to pass it before you can get into Heaven.’

Forrest responds, ‘It sure is good to be here, St. Peter, sir. But, nobody ever told me about any entrance exam. I sure hope that the test ain’t too hard. Life was a big enough test as it was.’

St. Peter continued, ‘Yes, I know, Forrest, but the test is only three questions. First: What two days of the week begin with the letter T? Second: How many seconds are there in a year? Third: What is God’s first name?’

Forrest leaves to think the questions over. He returns the next day and sees St. Peter, who waves him up, and says, ‘Now that you have had a chance to think the questions over, tell me your answers’

Forrest replied, ‘Well, the first one — which two days in the week begins with the letter ‘T’? Shucks, that one is easy. That would be Today and Tomorrow.’

The Saint’s eyes opened wide and he exclaimed, ‘Forrest, that is not what I was thinking, but you do have a point, and I guess I did not specify, so I will give you credit for that answer.’ ‘How about the next one?’ asked St. Peter

‘How many seconds in a year? Now that one is harder,’ replied Forrest, but I thunk and thunk about that, and I guess the only answer can be twelve.’

Astounded, St. Peter said, ‘Twelve? Twelve? Forrest, how in Heaven’s name could you come up with twelve seconds in a year?’

Forrest replied, ‘Shucks, there’s got to be twelve: January 2nd, February 2nd, March 2nd … ‘

‘Hold it,’ interrupts St. Peter. ‘I see where you are going with this, and I see your point, though that was not quite what I had in mind … but I will have to give you credit for that one, too. Let us go on with the third and final question. Can you tell me God’s first name’?

‘Sure,’ Forrest replied, ‘it’s Andy.’

‘Andy?’ exclaimed an exasperated and frustrated St Peter. ‘Ok, I can understand how you came up with your answers to my first two questions, but just how in the world did you come up with the name Andy as the first name of God?’

‘Shucks, that was the easiest one of all,’ Forrest replied. ‘I learnt it from the song, ‘ANDY WALKS WITH ME, ANDY TALKS WITH ME, ANDY TELLS ME I AM HIS OWN..’ ‘

St. Peter opened the Pearly Gates, and said: ‘Run Forrest, run!’

Give me a sense of humor, Lord. Give me the ability to understand a clean joke, to get some humor out of life, and to pass it on to other folks.

Larry A. Hanshaw
Dec.28/09 - Garet won his game yesterday vs Battleford 3-2. They played kinda crappy but they got the job done. I am in the office today and doing some work here on the website. I have put on some hunt specials for some of my camps. Check it out. Also here is that letter again from Larry Hanshaw. Talk to you later and book your hunt soon. Thanks. Grant.

Renault and Ford are working on a new small car for women. They are mixing the Clio and the Taurus, and calling it the "Clitaurus." It comes in pink, with or without fur on the dash, and the average male thief won't be able to find it, even if someone tells him where it is.
